Drown it in hand sanitizer, then pocket it.

Are y'all sanitizing all the cash you come into contact with?

If found on a bathroom floor, yes. I do sanitize my hands every time after handling money.

Probably leave it or bring it to some worker. I like being nice and dont really need $20 so it wouldnt make sense to keep it.

It doesn't really matter where you find it, physically money is almost always the most unsanitary thing you can find that isn't just straight up poop.

TCs stipulation is it was found in the bathroom.... not somewhere less questionable.

Money in general being a petri dish of germs is honestly beyond the point of also being open to take said dollar from the floor of a public bathroom.
The floor of a Starbucks bathroom?

No way I'm touching that.

While true, I just would be very wary that something on the floor in a public restroom has errant piss on it.

Why? It's not so much money that someone is likely to come looking for it unless they've been dropping 20s everywhere. Giving it to Starbucks just means Starbucks made $20. It's probably one of the most ethically neutral thing you can do is pocket it yourself. The theoretical best case is making a sign about something missing, post it nearby with your number, hope it doesn't get taken down, hope the owner sees it, hope a grifter doesn't successfully make you think it is theres.

In the last I would give it to an employee for the lost and found. Then I realized I probably just funded their weed habit or pizza party. So then I started keeping it. Ya snooze ya looze.
Unless it was in a wallet of course. Then I'd probably mail it back or drop it off to the police station.
Italian, French, German.
im taking that fucking money

get outta here with your lost and found "ethics"

you're gonna turn it in so the manager of the store can pocket it instead? that's my money.

and lol to the germaphobes. the floor of starbucks is likely cleaner than money anyway.

Nah, $20 can be a lot to some people and someone who lost it in a bathroom or in a store like that might hope that someone would have turned it in to the staff. It's shitty to just pocket it like that.

Outside on the ground randomly? Sure. But not in a store.

They would have to know they lost it there or retrace their steps asking everyone. There hits a point where your time is more valuable then the money. Again, the vast majority of the time is making Starbucks wealthier.

Which isn't far outside of the realm of possibility. I've definitely lost stuff in public and knew where I likely did it and returned for it.

Sure, but the likelihood of a person in Starbucks coming back for their $20 is slim.

And I don't know why you would think the employee would give it to Starbucks. At the end of the day they would just pocket it.

Have you never worked retail before? That is not how that works.

I have worked retail for 18 years. I've seen this happen more times then I can count and I can think of the times we've returned someone's money on one hand and the amount was always over $100. At my last job my boss became so callous if someone found anything she would laugh and say "well I guess it's ours now." Then she would use it as her own petty cash.

Every job I ever worked always had a clause if you didn't put it in the register, you could be fired. Once it's in the register, it's basically lost. Not every cashier and person was kept fully informed and messages would get lost consistently. Large amounts were kept tighter track of it but it was always amounts of $75+

plus its not urs (the general you, re the prompt)

It's not the company's either but it's not like they will keep a seperate safe for lost money. If the day passes and you don't claim it, it is gone gone.

never heard of this. must be a regional thing

like thats crazy. your stores just codify stealing. thats audacious. here, you make note of it, store it in a locked drawer for 30 days, then the one who turned it in can claim. literally never heard of your dystopian policy

In the UK, that's theft by finding -- and you can be prosecuted for it:
