First explain to me what the sight and sound poll is and why it should matter
sight and sound is an influential film criticism magazine run by the british film institute. every 10 years they asked critics (and separately - filmmakers) to submit a ballot of their ten favorite movies. people mostly focus on the critics list as it is larger and also has virtually everyone voting on it (many great filmmakers do not submit ballots for directors list). bicycle thieves was 1st in 1952, citizen kane was 1st from 1962-2022, vertigo in 2012, jeanne dielman in 2022.
anyway if you are a young person who wants to see more movies, it is a better resource than, say, the imdb or letterboxd 250. i checked the 2002 list a lot when i was first getting into cinema.
however the 2022 list was kind of embarrassing
