The internet wasn't anywhere near as pervasive back then as it is now.There was no social media and smartphones, but internet was still fairly common. There's a reason those jokes about AOL discs being so common is a thing. I had it, my family members had it, most of my friends did. I'm more surprised at the comments in here saying they didn't have internet.
