Report: X-Box Showcase June 9th will include Gears of War and CoD

According to a new report, Microsoft will host a big summertime event this June featuring a number of game announcements and release date reveals, among other things.

The Verge reported that Microsoft is in the midst of planning its previously announced summer showcase, which the site said will take place on Sunday, June 9. The event will reportedly include the announcement of the next Gears of War game.

Additionally, it's rumored Microsoft will use the event to announce the release dates for the next Call of Duty game, as well as Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

GameSpot has contacted Xbox for comment.

The next Call of Duty game, which is said to be a Black Ops title, is reportedly going to take place, at least in part, during the Gulf War. The game will feature open-world missions, just like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, a report said.

In other Xbox news, Windows Central reported that 26-year Microsoft veteran Kareem Choudhry is leaving the company amidst a reorganization that focuses in part on Microsoft's ambitious plans for AI. Choudhry was known, in recent times, for spearheading Xbox's cloud gaming efforts, among other things.

Xbox's reported summer showcase on June 9 puts it just after Summer Game Fest's big showcase on June 7. Additionally, Ubisoft's own summer event takes place on Monday, June 10. It is expected that more gaming showcases will be announced in the time ahead.

I'm really curious how they're going to handle the big choice given to the players at the end of Gears 5.

Either they ignore it or have two semi-seperate campaigns based on what character you chose to save at the end of Gears 5

If you haven't already played it, I recommend trying it on game pass before buying TBH. It gets boring pretty fast, IMO.

Man, as a huge fan of Gears 1 and 3, I legit haven't cared about the franchise is nearly 10 years now.

Yep.

With that said if microsoft were to greenlight a gears of war 3 remaster, but do NOT shit the game up with a single microtransactions/lootbox or battle pass in sight (both the versus multiplayer and the horde mode need to be left as they were in OG gears 3. I really, really dislike what they did with horde in both gears 4 and 5 with all that deck nonsense) then I absolutely will be all over this.

Just 4K resolution and support for 120fps on the series X, touch up the character models a bit, and all of gears 3's original DLC content added to the game by default is all I need.

* Maybe give the retro lancer a slight toning down lol, but honestly by the time this game had it's last balance patch I wasn't really bothered much by gears 3's weapon balance. Scorcher would crisp people up if they got too close, a coordinated lancer/hammerburst criss-cross would melt people trying to run in the blatant open, and all was relatively well.*

Think because the developers have completely changed.

When Epic sold the rights to Microsoft, everything essentially ended. Same for Halo and Bungie. When you take the heart and soul out of a franchise, it's no wonder people stop caring.

We see this time and time again. Hell look at Rocksteady now and 10 years ago.

give us classic CoD multiplayer

It hasn't even been officially revealed yet and I'm already more hyped for the next Call of Duty game than I have been for a CoD game in a very long time. Just knowing that this is a Treyarch-developed CoD game with 4 years of development time since their last title has my expectations for this game through the roof. Treyarch (IMO) makes the best CoD multiplayer experiences, but their last few games have had rushed developments for one reason or another, so I'm hyped to see what they can do when actually given plenty of time to cook.
