Naruto's friendship with Sasuke was such nonsense, it killed the show for me

The real reason Naruto was obsessed is because he trauma bonded with the dude and felt like he could relate.

Sakura influenced him to make promise he couldnt commit to and the rest is history.

Narutos personal philosophy made it extremely hard to not obsess over helping.

Even Sasuke was like Bro, why are you still at this? multiple times.

The author maybe did it on accident. But Naruto being so flawed that he cant allow his personal drives to fail is engaging. (How can I be Hokage if I cant save one friend)

The payoff didnt land. Because Sasuke is saved.

All This. Naruto by his own admission could have possibly went psycho if Iruka and Team 7 didn't steer his heart in a different direction
