Got some 'splainin' to do regarding the Civil War and WWII at least there.
The Civil War was between the entire country.Well sort of.
Eh
Compared to a lot of the world, sure, but we've done some pretty objectively bad things and have a negative influence on a lot of the world too
Well sort of.Exactly. That horrible faction is still part of the country.
I mean it was between America and a faction who wanted to leave the country and start their own based on slavery
America was founded on genocide and preys on its own people even in modern times. This
Got some 'splainin' to do regarding the Civil War and WWII at least there.Easy peasy.
Why does it have to be a confirm or deny kind of thing, why can't it be that they're sometimes the good guys and sometimes the bad guys? What are they right now?
Wait what the fuck!?
World War II - The Soviets were the closest things to good guys.

I love you man.
Just want to remind everyone that we all support mental health treatment here.

Remember, the insults were his first course of action.I mean it's kinda hard to give you the benefit of the doubt dude.
World War II - The Soviets were the closest things to good guys. The USA entered late, risked the least, lost the least, and earned the most, establishing themselves as the greatest threat to the human race in the process.Oh lord.
I mean it's kinda hard to give you the benefit of the doubt dude.I said the Soviets, not Joseph Stalin. And yes, they were. They fought the hardest, and lost the most in doing so. Simple as. It's ultimately more complicated than just that, of course, but it WAS a simple question ("who were the good guys"), and the USA weren't the MVPs at all in the fight against the Axis Powers. That was the Soviets. If you have a different standard of 'the good guys' then you're stepping into murkier waters than I am, but those ("the ones who fought the Axis powers hardest") are the standards I answered by when I said "the closest thing".
You really want to standby that Joseph Stalin was the cloest thing to the good guys at that time period?
The Soviets were so legendary cruel that even modern day dsytopian fiction is still based on them. The complete removal of rights, enormous death counts, torture, rape, starvation, secret police, kidnappings. That doesn't really have much bearing on who was the good guys during World War II, and seems like more of a distraction than anything. As for the dystopic fiction thing, similarly irrelevant, but also absurd. Supposing if it turns out that more dystopic fiction is actually based on the United States or British Empire or the Kuomintang, is that supposed to turn the tide in my favor?
Really as complex as human beings and governments can be, Stalin, Nazis and North Korea are pretty much as unambigiously bad as anything in modern history.North Korea? What? They weren't even in World War II.
It's a strange take, you're going to get a confused or hostile reaction from anyone who has studied any 20th century history. There are plenty of people who'd agree with me, because they studied 20th century history, they just tend to not be Americans. And I don't really think there's any confusion in the replies, just hostility.
Do... Do you think the Nazis were the good guys in world war 2?
Wtf, why are you trying to deflect the notion that America went against the Nazis? Are you a Nazi sympathizer or something?Being against the Nazis doesn't automatically make them good guys. It is entirely possible - and is the case more often than not - for a war to be bad guys against even worse guys; and the US committed some pretty horrific acts against civilians in the course of that war so they cannot be considered good guys, only "not-nearly-as-bad guys". For that matter, the US didn't intervene because of an altruistic goal of stopping the evil Nazis; they did so only because the Nazis became a direct threat to them. Russia-Ukraine is the only conflict that comes to mind with a clear good guy (Ukraine). I'm sure there are others, but that's the only one to immediately come to mind.
He said "never" has been the good guy. I provided a counter to that, and now you're deflecting to something else in defense of Nazis.
Why are Nazi sympathizers on here?
