Yeah, I won't fully endorse this here. It did suck, for many reasons, including what you outlined. I do feel some people are dramatic about it, though. I know people who feel the same way and will say it's because they couldn't go to Mexico for vacation. Anyway, I just couldn't help but roll my eyes at Eel when he said it.
this is so fucking absurd dude

you started this hate on me, I believe when I went to an outdoor music festival fully vaxed and boosted (that required vaccinations!) in the second half of 2021. This was after a year and a half of isolation! No events! No getting together with friends and family! No travel or vacation!

I get that youre coming from the dual position of living in a shitty right wing area and someone that has been affected by long Covid, but you and other people ITT continually come from this position that theres no difference between people saying but the economy! in March 2020 and people saying hey 1-2 years of isolation really takes its toll on peoples mental health, not to mention childrens social development. That may not feel like a long time to single people without families that are just as happy sitting at home playing video games but it is a long ass time

i dont agree with the cdcs new guidelines, theyre obviously in service of CEOs and I still test and mask up and stay home when Im sick

but it is human nature to want things to go back to normal. Connections with other human beings is literally what most of us live for. Some of yall are treating this like some black or white thing like either youve stayed home since March 2020 or youre a MAGA nutter

anyway, it is shitty to see that topic title is apparently sarcastic when the whole situation was absolutely oppressive for everyone

Covid restrictions were necessary but man did they suck. I think the worst part were the barriers it put up between people (both physically and emotionally). Ive never felt so alone and withdrawn from my fellow man.
Most people are selfish assholes who walk around as if no one outside their little bubble exists, so I don't know why they missed being around people that they pretend don't exist.

Is this serious? I dont mean that in a snarky or sarcastic way but its just wild to me that people were completely unable to cope. There were plenty of ways to stay in contact with people during that time, and it couldve been a good way to learn how to handle new situations.

thankfully i lived in Tampa, the demo mayor tried to lock us down but a team of lawyers was going to slap a lawsuit on her for being unconstitutional and the very next day we were good lol. so sad for the folks that lost their businesses but never again. nobody (with a brain that is) will every lock down again. I know i won't lol.

A lot of folks both here and irl would tag me as the "muh freedums" kinda guy, and during the pandemic it truly saddened me to see so many turn off their brains and come up with any excuse to not cover up their damn mouth.

Like, no Sandra; you're not being patriotic by giving me and my family members a virus.

I still see the occasional person at the grocery store wearing them.

Very serious. It took me a several months after all the restrictions were lifted to even being feeling comfortable around people again. I was really messed up.

I don't think my eyes could roll any harder when people call it "oppressive" when the worst they might have gone through was not getting to do some fun things. Truly horrific living conditions

The fact that anyone cared about anything other than not spreading an incredibly lethal virus made me super depressed during COVID. Still kinda bummed about it.

It's no surprise some people here have 0 idea what oppression really is.

Truly we were experiencing a preview of Biden's dictatorship. Republicans said it was basically Nazi Germany or North Korea.
You also forgot to add the haves got to sit at home and hangout n bitch- while the have nots still had to go to work everyday. The middle and lower classes took the brunt of Covid

I liked how quiet and calm it all seemed.

plus I loved how nature was kinda coming back and growing and pollution levels were dropping in many places. It almost seemed it was better for the earth

I'm sure the millions of dead will be happy that the sacrifice forced on them will keep you from having to wear fabric on your lower face.

America should have had an actual lockdown and you should have been forced to get vaccinated. Your tears would have been delicious.

For you, it was the worst time of your life. For me it was Tuesday :P

idk man I guess my life experiences have just made me a lot stronger than I think I am. It was just like... whatever I guess I'm masking at work for a while.

It's clearly horrible that so many people died because of incompetence and malevolence, and that jobs were lost because our economy sucks and is dominated by greedy corps. But on a personal level, it did nothing to me. It actually kinda kickstarted the greatest period of my life, unrelated to the pandemic.

Unless you were some kind of anti social NEET with no kids I dont understand how the lockdown could have been anything but oppressive for most people.

Speaking of kids the lockdown forced many of them onto online schooling which was a nightmare for both them and the parents for a multitude of reasons.

You could also be solipsistic, a quality which I see in a fair number of people in the thread. Who cares that people lost their jobs and others outright died, at least the traffic was really fucking good for the few times one has to go out.

mother nature reclaiming earth and all the animals being able to roam free with minimal human intervention, the atmosphere being cleaner because of all the traffic being reduced since people were indoors more often

Ill only disagree with that part, because people legit got fired for not complying to vaccine mandates. Especially if you had a government job.

So to say nothing will happen is kinda disingenuous. I understand your point, but I dont necessarily agree with it.

I had to put myself between a large man in his early 50s and a tiny 17 year old girl at Target pretty early on. Dude was red faced rage screaming at her because she asked him to out a mask on. So I got between them, told her to go get the manager, and dude started screaming at me.

I've never wanted someone to take a swing at me as badly as I wanted him to. I wanted the excuse to fuck him up. Which probably reflects poorly on me as a person, but it is what is.

Dude was in my face screaming about tyranny and shit and said "I ought to kick your ass for getting involved". I said something to the effect of "give it a shot" but then the manager came running over with security and dude shriveled up and deflated.

I'll take "fantasies that never actually happened" for $100, alex.

Dumbest part about it, was some of these people are considered intellectuals

they were doctors, nurses various kinds of healthcare workers

people who are supposed to be helping people through the process of healing either by education or by doing what they can to help out

like going through months or years of schooling to get a career in the health field only to blow it away. Just blows my mind how ridiculous that is

Same. Work and pay was decent, great games coming out, less traffic on the roads, and less interaction with people being an introvert.
