Isnt it better to have a job than be unemployed and do nothing with your life?

Whats wrong with working at Dennys, Burger King, or Walmart? Isnt that better than applying for welfare?

I can understand it. Working with the public suuuuucks. And those jobs sure as hell don't pay enough to make it worth it.

  • get job at Target or Old Navy at barely above minimum wage
  • suddenly make "too much money" to qualify for welfare

Yes, and it's not a ballpark either and there's no grace period. The second your bank account reaches that amount, you're out. So you might've just had that much because of a Christmas bonus or monetary gifts for your birthday---they don't care, you're out. It's a system designed to keep people in poverty.

i doubt that. people who do? would rather be on welfare anyways.

Everything is wrong with it tbh, if people would rather be in welfare than work at those places then the fault is clearly not with the people.
My maid will hear about this.
Some people don't like being verbally, and on occasion, physically abused enough to work a minimum wage customer service job.
If you're not smart enough to survive, you are basically just food for something smarter.
TC obviously never worked retail a day in his life.

There are other productive and enjoyable things to do, besides working in fast food or retail.

If Dennys, Burger King, or Walmart are not offering a more attractive proposition than living in poverty on welfare, then maybe they should have a rethink.

I wouldn't bother working if I couldn't make significantly more than what welfare would give me.

Notice how, with the graduated tax system, they have all this complicated math to make sure the rate only changes on what you earn over a certain amount. Because if they didn't, rich people would throw a fit at the very possibility that they could end up with less money because their salary went up. "What is even the point of working?" they would scream.

Meanwhile if you're trying to pull yourself out of poverty? Nobody cares, and if you'd rather not work and get more money they'll say you're a lazy bum leeching off of hardworking taxpayers.

People believe that people on welfare go on shopping sprees and live better than most working class folk

I used to work at walmart unloading trucks for $8 an hour could barely get by living on my own. Management were assholes and some customers as well, fuck retail man.
A person with one of those shitty jobs barely makes enough to care for themself. If that person has kids, there's even more issue. Especially because you can be stuck with bad shifts that don't allow you to care for your family.

Also, what gig at the restaurant? If you get server and Denny's doesn't pay even minimum wage and you are forced to rely on tips, you're probably better off staying on Welfare.
The other thing with retail is that unless you're in management there's a good chance your hours and thus your pay not going to be consistent. You'll be able to get plenty of hours around Christmas time but the rest of the time your hours might fluctuate a lot depending on how busy the store is that time of year.

When I worked at Target a lot of people there worked a second job because they basically had to, especially if they had kids to support.

Working a dead end job to barely make ends meet to make mega corporations a fortune while you are miserable is defined as doing something with your life now?

Yes, and to say otherwise is socialism.

Any job is fine, but some jobs are notorious for treating their employees like shit. Fast food is one of those jobs. Places like dollar tree are others.

My local Target looks like its a decent enough place to work, but in Australia workers actually have some rights, so

Also Ive noticed a trend going around with stores having signs up saying our staff are here to serve, not be abused so I assume management actually gives somewhat of a shit about their workers.

I cant imagine Walmart putting up signs like that, and hell, it wouldnt surprise me if red states have banned such signs.

I would rather take classes to professionally film drying paint than work another day in retail. I would rather get punched in the sack by Mike Tyson every day for a year than continue working retail. I would rather be hand wash the Eiffel Tower naked than continue working retail.

Before even thinking of what those places are like specifically, I would rather be on welfare than work in retail or any restaurant, fast food or not. And not for some petty "Those aren't respectable jobs" reasons either.

Completely obvious bad faith topic, if this were serious, Id say tell me youve never worked service or retail without saying youve never worked service or retail

Shplendid!
