Uhhh, I bought it day one on PS4 and never finished it because it had some annoying issues that the other games didn't (namely health and stamina foolishly tied together). Not sure how it is once you leave that first mountain town, but getting everything for $4 is fine by me, especially as someone leaving the Playstation ecosystem.

no real plot progression until like the last 10 minutes of the game

I see. Honestly, I don't mind the Shenmue-isms like awkward controls or silly voice acting, since that enhances the B-movie feel to everything. It's really that stamina thing that really killed my interest previously. Perhaps others felt the same way, especially if they played Shenmue 2 in preparation for the next, haha.

I was gonna do it, but apprently it's already in my library. Wonder if I got it from Humble Bundle or something. I remember a couple years ago thinking, "Man, I've heard a lot of great things about Shenmue. I should play 1 and 2 before I try 3." I started 1 on Steam, thought it was absolute straight trash lmao. Controls were definitely too dated for my liking. Game probably is great though, and I might revisit it one day, but man, it was rough. I didn't even make it 1 hour in I don't think.

Saw in one of the reviews that there's a Nexus mod that fixes some of the annoying issues, including the stamina stuff. I haven't modded any games since I got my Deck, but apparently there's a way to do it, so maybe that tips the scales for some.

I cant believe they managed to resurrect it from the dead and they decided to not move the plot at all and end on a cliffhanger.

I agree. Three should have been the end. It should have been necessary too because of how difficult it was to even get this one.

Ive heard that there is. The stamina/food element was done so badly. The combat sucked too but that seemed more due to budgetary and system limitations than intent. I loved everything else about it though.

The entire game is an annoying issue, so modding can only partially mitigate the annoyance

What I played of that mountain town was fine and it hit many of the expected rhythms -- kung-fu training, minigames, kooky NPCs on schedules during an implemented day-night cycle, etc. But the stamina stuff...if you're constantly wasting time every day to go buy steamed buns or something, that just hampers some of the enjoyment. There were many scenes in the previous games that you could only do in certain timeframes, so whenever pointless fluff "realism" messes with that, it's rather off-putting.
