I'm more of a Metal Slug guy. I like the presentation better, I feel like it has maintained a better overall quality, and I'd replay them over Contra games on the whole.

Metal Slug is visually more appealing but the gameplay in Contra is more satisfying.

Gunstar Heroes is better than both.
It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

The metal slug games have a awesome art style, and trends more towards comedy (morden's scream and "come on boy!" will never make me not laugh). Contras can have a harder hitting faster-paced playstyle, and the boss gauntlet contras like contra hard corps and hard corps uprising has action and a soundtrack that keeps slapping you in the face.

I like my favorite contra game (hard corps uprising on the 360/PS3) more than my favorite metal slugs (Metal slug X and 3).

Once you get in the zone to these kind of soundtracks its hard not being a huge fan of the playstyle, lol:

how long does it take to beat C:HC? ive never seriously played it but im good at platformers. i beat cuphead on hard S+ everything etc.

edit: i mean how many hours of training, not how long the game is

Some of the better ports do: metal slug 4 & 5 on ps2 are arcade ports and you have infinite credits. But even those are far short of shattered soldier, an amazing game.
