(25% for heart attack and 42% for stroke)
https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/smoking-cannabis-associated-increased-risk-heart-attack-stroke

The study, funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of NIH, found that daily use of cannabis predominately through smoking was associated with a 25% increased likelihood of heart attack and a 42% increased likelihood of stroke when compared to non-use of the drug.

Researchers note that while the exact mechanisms linking cannabis to heart disease are unclear and were not explored in the current study, multiple factors could play a role. In addition to toxins, endocannabinoid receptors the part of cells responsible for recognizing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis are widespread in the bodys cardiovascular tissues and might facilitate heart risks.

So really this study is nowhere near exhaustive enough to make any claims about anything. Rushing to make conclusions on just this is bad science.
I'd be curious to know what the risks end up being if you're just taking edibles, because I imagine the actual smoking part is a large contributing factor for heart disease and stroke.

It could also be lifestyle choices, too. Studies like these are fine as a starting place, but they have no place making concrete statements without understanding the correlations better and eliminating threats to validity.
The studies dont make those statements. Its the news media that sensationalizes scientific research.

Daily consumption of many things is bad for you, so I'm not shocked. I wouldn't be surprised if daily users on average live more sedentary lifestyles and have poor diets which both align really well with heart disease / stroke

I never smoke, but I like to relax with 5-10mg of edibles in the evening while doing chores or going on a run. Wish more studies were done on them.

It's pretty safe to say that smoking anything daily can increase cancer risk as well as risk of vascular disease which includes heart attacks and strokes.

But potheads gon pothead.
I'd be willing to bet this likely hinges on method of intake (smoking or vaping) vs oral ingestion. We know smoking is bad for you, we've known that for decades. It's likely not the marijuana itself, but that obviously needs to be studied.

That being said, I feel like people should be free to make their own choices. Treat it like cigarettes, limit it in public places and inside of buildings, and let people make their own decisions.
Wonder how many of those were cigarette smokers. Or drank alcohol a lot. Or had 10 cups of coffee a day. Think we all know its not ideal inhaling that stuff on a daily basis but I wonder what all else contributed to those cases.

as Ive stated nothing new but the amount of studies from several accounts alarmed me

hell even getting angry increases chances of heart attack and stroke

even just being sick (I remember reading about it several years ago) can cause heart problems

At the very least I'm glad that we've walked back enough on cannabis restrictions that these studies can be done and we can adjust our regulatory bodies accordingly.

what kind of cannabis?
flower, carts, hashish, wax, edibles, rosin rso, ???
is it sold by a dispensary? I have NEVER had good weed from a dispensary, it's all shit. I've had it from canadian dispos, colorado, california, michigan, and a few other states I'm forgetting.
all nasty, low quality buds grown with waaaay too much phosphorus in the soil (or liquid food for hydroponic). some of the advertised "top shelf" buds don't have this problem, but literally every ounce for less than $350 I've tried from a dispo is clearly grown by people who have no clue what they're doing or is done in such a way that they do not care because most people won't notice because they've never grown weed themselves.
I haven't, allegedly. stop talking to me about this. I have no clue what I'm talking about, this is all hypothetical and purely for educational purposes. It's perfectly legal where I live, but that's not the point because I never grew a weed plant.
?
Did they compare the cannabis smokers with stictly tobacco smokers? Or were all of the non users also non smokers?

It's not a war crime the first time.
So a study that's on sketchy foundation at best concludes that it applies primarily to smokers?

I'm not gonna change my habits for this.
