While back in the day (20/23 years ago depending on if you count the original cut being planned for an October 2000 release or 2023 DVD only) the movie would be edited down for violence, it felt like the movie as planned getting any release was more of a treat.

Yeah whether it's the Max or whenever it's on TubiTV, the Uncut version is the default.

Though the tie in comic back then also had to be altered. Pics courtesy of Batman Beyond on World's Finest:

Only change made to the book. Which means that when the characters call back to Joker's death, yeah they still acknowledge Tim Drake shooting him.

I mean Infinite Crisis was 5 years away, so maybe just blame the discrepancies on Superboy Prime's punches messing with DCAU reality. Would explain design changes from BTAS to TNBA to Return of the Joker and Justice League.

I feel the electrocution death version was more darker.

Potentially cause of the scream yes, just that the point of the original is Tim (well any of Batman's wards) deliberately choosing to take a life and with a gun.

Part of the reason for Old Bruce retiring from serving as Batman directly.

Is it possible to see the cut version somewhere?

The idea was that Tim couldn't be the one who killed Joker. The Joker needed to kill himself. Even if the death in the edited version is the darker death.

More specifically, it's that barring the makeover, Tim's guilt/breakdown is based on him doing so by choice rather than Joker ahem, slipping up.

Only out of context.

Batman has a pretty serious THING about guns. That Joker had warped the kid to the point where he used a gun to kill the Joker was, in a way, one hell of a nasty last laugh. Even if the Joker himself did not think it was funny.

And again, Tim's break down in the flashback and residual guilt is because he chose to kill the Joker regardless of method, whereas in the edited version where he trips and turns on the power, Tim was faultless.

Yep that stinks of editorial mandate, because it was.

I think the first episode was a good enough reason for Bruce to retire (which is Batman pulling a gun on a thug). Putting Tim on top of that was not entirely necessary for that (what it really does is explain why he's by himself shut off from his former allies)
I will rule the world, and find that truly good cup of coffee.
I assumed Bruce was still Batman for a decade or two after the Tim incident, but that's what made Barbra retire.

All things said, if there is anything from the edited version they should add back, it's the added seat belts on Terry and Bruce.

Such is a staple of Batman after all:

Well, Bruce Bats was definitely active Batman after that, since it wasn't until the incident he scared off a crook by grabbing a gun and pointing it at them that he finally hung up his cape and became Bitter Bat until some teenage yahoo raided his Bat Cave (mind you, he still stayed bitter, and its a plot point for an episode that inside his head, he still calls himself Batman and not "Bruce" since, no really, Batman is the identity he sees himself as even then, and presumably for most of his life).
