One of my favorite bands ever, and that album is brilliant.

Beto the Democrat from Texas used to play guitar with them.

I know I used to listen to them but One Armed Scissor is the only song I can remember now. I should give them a listen again.
I saw the Mars Volta last year. That shit was so sick

Not the music, but I remember a highly vocal contingent on CE who praised At the Drive-In and related acts back around 2002

They're awesome live.

Haven't they turned into a smooth yacht rock band now?

Which is pretty funny.

Well, he played in a band that had members of ATDI before ATDI started

No their new album was pretty experimental. They're just not doing backflips off their amps anymore cuz they're like 40+ years old lol

There are only 500 copies, and still available on his website, so the answer to your question is 'hardly anyone'.

They released a mellow album, so what?
You heard some random reviewer online spouting that "yacht rock" nonsense, and thought it sounded cool?

Nah, it has that light, laid back vibe I associate with yacht rock.

I don't think yacht rock is a bad thing. Bands like Steely Dan and Toto are pretty well regarded. Not sure why anyone would get upset over it. It's just very different from previous releases.
