The only thing ruined here are pants shitting AAA devs selling $250 collectors editions that don't even come with all the DLC with MTX and always online getting clowned on by a UE5 $30 game made by 30-40 people that looks like a PlayStation 3 game.
With one of the main people holding the 30-40 people together being a high school dropout working at a 7/11 uploading gun animations to youtube in his spare time.

but fyi Teddy this is the point

the fact you even thought something as shameless as Metal Gear was transformative goes to show just how common and accepted clones are in video gaming

fyi Snake Plissken is the main character in Escape from New York and literally is the exact image of Solid Snake who says his real name is Plissken

So all the stuff about the military industrial complex, the anti American message, etc was taken from that work? You can argue that any dude with an eye patch and similar hair is a clone.

We make comparisons, identify the lazy creative ideas, and discuss it.

Where are all the discussions about "lazy creative ideas" when it comes to MGS, Elder Scrollers, hell even Lord of the Rings as I mentioned earlier in the topic?

Teddytalks posted...
This happens frequently, just it never done this lazily unless the game a cheap asset flip. That the point of contention and merit discussion, hence the discussion about it is huge.

Have you played the game? Or are you basing this off of articles and screenshots? The game is much closer to Ark Survival Evolved than it is anything else, which the developers noted many times. It was their main inspiration.

It honestly wouldn't matter because they literally ripped the main character and didn't even bother changing their name

but anyways here is a list:

Escape from New York references/influences in Metal Gear Solid
false
It's not unknown that Escape from New York inspired many elements in Metal Gear. I've known this for years. However, I haven't actually watched the film until now. I thought it was fun seeing all the similarities. Some were more obvious and others I'm stretching a little bit. Here's a few observations I made (mostly applies to MGS1):
  • The main character's name is Snake, who is a special forces veteran and really likes smoking (Kojima is very upfront with the influence).
  • The specific "Snake Plissken" name is used in both series.
  • Both series involve having characters wearing an eyepatch. Big Boss has a real one, and Solid Snake has the Solid Eye on the same side as Kurt Russell.
  • Snake and Snake Plissken have some impressive mullets.
  • Both are cold, cynical and tired (although Solid, Big Boss, and Venom have characterization beyond this).
  • Belligerent relations with the CO.
  • The characters mention not liking needles in mission prep.
  • Solid and Plissken are injected with some sort of fail-safe in case of mission failure or betrayal (neck-explosives/FOXDIE).
  • Solo infiltration mission.
  • Reliance on insider help (Brain and Maggie/Otacon and Meryl).
  • Worth noting that Brain and Otacon are both engineers, who collaborated with the terrorists either willingly or unwillingly.
  • A final car escape against a time limit.
  • Supposed to be stealth mission but what actually happens in the movie and games kind of imply that being undetected didn't really matter (hello alerts).
  • Terrorists make their play the day before an international nuclear treaty (Hartford summit/START II).
  • Plans involve blackmailing/undermining the president.
  • Main character gets captured.
  • There's a fist fight close to the end.
I haven't seen Escape from L.A. and there's probably a lot more that I missed, but these were the ones I noticed personally.

yet they guy who supposedly has such an issue with this thinks MGS is just fine...cause it had a mech

yet palworld having crafting is not enough

When I hopped into Palworld the first time (without really knowing anything about it), first thing I thought was, "Damn this is so similar Ark Survival Evolved's leveling system, technology, and crafting."

And the devs mention that's their largest inspiration.

They supported Craftopia a lot, they will add more stuff and people will come back to it. I was into Craftopia for a bit even though it was shit, we'd put it down for a few weeks til an update and then dive in for hours more.

Me and the wife put in like 5 hours into Palworld last night, at it's current state it does have an end point, so it makes sense that people reached cap, caught everything and put it down for now.

Yeah, it's basically [accessible] Ark with Pokemon, rather than the meme 'Pokemon with guns'. Things you can gather for crafting literally sparkle, and the game lays out obvious places for bases which often include most of those things.

Because you choose to interpret it that way. Again I could give less of a shit if it took inspiration from it to form their own identity with it but the problem is that in some creature designs it takes TOO much inspiration to be close to exact clones of Pokmon and many people can see that.
