Everyone strongly believes whatever and a random conversation wont change their mind. In fact theyre trying to change yours.

So thats moot. Just go vote for the politician thats apparently for whatever you think and thats the extent of what you can actually do.
There can be only one.
There are undecided people who read these and their eventual decision may be influenced by it. That, more than convincing the other party themself, is the main point IMO.

Not necessarily always true.

Sure, a single random convo isn't going to change anybody's mind, but being repeatedly exposed to new ways of thinking (especially from people you respect and trust) CAN make you more receptive to opposing viewpoints. The main issue, if anything, is that people stay within echo chambers where their beliefs aren't being challenged, but rather are reinforced.

Not all political discourse on the internet is done in bad-faith.
I have nothing else to say
You might as well say this about discussing anything... movie opinions, video games, books, historical events, etc. It's a cowardly and intellectually lazy stance.

These and it's nice to have a thread for letting out any takes, cause anger isn't bad, just letting it fester is.

I dont know if this was your intention or not, but you just described the CE board down to a T there.

I dont have a "stance" on them. Just a general opinion. If i think a games good and you think its bad, who cares? But differentiating opinions on political issues literally decide elections.

The point of political discussion is to figure out if a person is dangerous enough to avoid because they're going to show up to work with a gun someday or just stupid enough to laugh at with your friends and have good, "this guy at work..." stories.
AND THIS. IS TO POST. EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!!!!!!!

If you think CE is an echo chamber, then you don't visit many places on the internet.

If you have political opinions, you are involved in a dialogue of some kind.

Even if it's only a passive one with Fox News and right wing 'gamer' YouTubers.

Ive definitely noticed people being warned and having topics deleted for espousing right wing beliefs with no apparent TOS violations. Not long ago I saw it happen when somebody made a pro-life topic. Theres a bit of an echo in here.

Whats funny about that? With the way the general user base reacts to somebody expressing right wing beliefs and actual moderations of it, I dont know how somebody could deny that this board is only accepting of left wing beliefs.
I wouldnt say its an echo chamber. There is still a fair amount of harmless goofball posting. Theres just a subset of users who elected themselves board police and just attack people, even people who lean politically the same as they do. Mods seem to be ok with it.

I mean if it's something racist/sexist/homophobic then yeah trying to insist it's just an opinion (i.e. racism is no different than disliking pepperoni on pizza or say preferring Pepsi over Coke) is basically saying bigotry is a trivial matter.

Yep, saying there's no echo chamber in CE is like saying there's no french people in France.

The motto of that place should be "Go with the grain or go away"

Because some people actually can change. In the early 2010s I was a Ben Shapiro wannabe conservative. It took people I cared about talking to me and explaining why I was full of shit and my own inclination of searching for truths that led me to switch to the other side.

There's people like me out there. They shouldn't have to waste their life on an ideology they were indoctrinated into.

And yet here you are, making this post with no repercussions or consequences.

I find that the "right-wing beliefs" people get modded for aren't over shit like less government spending or deregulation. There's also several right-wing users (and even known trolls) who still continue to post here freely.

Discussing politics is fine, but if you go by how this board operates, it seems like a wide number of posters here are trying to fill a void of self importance by dedicating a lot of time to something that they do not actively engage in some shape or form IRL, whether it be:

Being a party insider.
Being a lobbyist.
Working for an elected officials campaign
Working for a think tank or some other similar institution that impacts public policy.
Donating money to a cause or charity.

Respectfully speaking, dedicating that much of ones time for free to something that conjures up so much negativity is not going to be a healthy thing.
Speaking for myself, I personally appreciate cisgender allies who speak up for my basic human rights and fight against the spread of disinformation regardless of the forum, and voting blue is all they have to do to make a difference.

It's because a lot of right wing beliefs naturally overlap with beliefs that would have gotten you warned/suspended prior to them becoming the main focus of the republican party. For example, people didn't just suddenly start getting modded for posting bigoted shit. You could have posted that before Trump and you would have been suspended.

The difference is now that the masks have come off, some people need to accept the consequences of "talk shit, get hit"

From what I'm exposed to on CE. Having any nuanced or neutral viewpoint is looked down upon. Someone who sees many sides gets shunned when they are not on their side. The original intent isn't bad faith but becomes so when its clear that not being 100% their side is grounds for harassment.
Above all things, never be afraid. The enemy who forces you to retreat is himself afraid of you at that very moment.

You should rephrase it from pro life to anti-humanity, might make your point clearer in the future when you want to debate your viewpoint

Yeah, I got modded for trolling on this board some time back for asking a question regarding side effects of the vaccines. And also for making remarks that were deemed "politically incorrect". So I just stopped discussing those kinds of topics here. Same thing with Reddit. Depending on what sub you go to, your opinion gets downvoted unless 51% or more people agree with you.

The truth is, there really isn't anywhere on the internet that fosters open discussion from both sides. The minority opinion always gets shut down, which only leads to more extremist ideologies. Civil discourse is a thing of the past unfortunately. And it's ironic considering we claim to value free speech, but at the same time we continue to label more and more speech as objectionable.

Any. I am critical to any opinions in real life or online. I'm not sure why this begs the question. People are quick to go for ad homeim attacks on the person for looking at the same issue differently. I'm not the emotional reader and many people don't understand that news is read to appeal to your emotions. It's how they sell. Taking a neutral tone with the subject is more than enough to ruffle any feathers on this board.
