I'm considering getting an account on ResetEra. But before I do so, I'd very much like to know what I have to watch out for in the site's boards? For those who've frequented to ResetEra, how is it over there compared to GameFAQs? Are the moderators more friendly or strict?
Miss the old GameFAQs politics board? Then come here to discuss it with us: https://www.reddit.com/r/gamefaqs261/
I've never been there but their reputation is that they are very strict and ban happy towards all but the most conventionally popular opinions and aggressive towards actual discussion.

I've heard "Resertera is toxic" more than I've seen a racist tweet from a guy with a blue checkmark

I would advise against participating in political discussions over there.

First you have to get approved. You won't be able to use your average free email address like gmail or yahoo. It'll have to be provided by an ISP, school, or work.

Then make sure everything you say is 150% PC for at least a year to avoid an instaban. They don't even give warnings to newer members. First offence is a permanent ban.
This is where cool people write stuff.

That said I'd greatly prefer the moderation style of resetera as opposed to some other website that shall remain unnamed which superficially claims to try to be as welcoming to as many people as possible and will take heavy handed disciplinary actions if you post some racist dog whistle or advocate for abortion bans and stuff, but don't you dare say something like "Republicans are shit." The mod staff will be there immediately to #NotAllRepublican you and remind you that many of their members are Republicans and this is offensive to them.

I enjoy it for the specific game threads for games I'm playing. (I take part in the Forza and GT7 thread every so often lol)

I avoid everything else because I don't want to accidentally step on someone's toes and get my ass banned lol.

I got banned in a topic about women in gaming for using the word female (I wasn't talking about women or girls in particular, so...).

One alleged chick went ape shit over the word. I tried to explain it wasn't meant in a derogatory way and she doubled down and got white knighted. I was like these people are fucking crazy. If you're not in their 2017 club you might as well stay away.

This. The game threads and pop culture stuff can be engaging, but it definitely feels like walking on eggshells.

Just tell them you're a lead mod on GameFAQs, I'm sure they'll be more tolerant. /s
Without truth, there is nothing.
their not democratic underground levels of cesspool, but their fairly close. stick to the gaming threads thats related to what youre enjoying in the moment and nothing else. its very very easy to get banned there.
Humble novice would be far too right wing for reset era lol

I heard its p bad except the game boards
ready
I only go there once in a while. It's generally ok. From what I noticed, the general userbase shifts depending on the type of megathread you enter, so it's easier to become familiar with certain groups there.

Some bans were ridiculous before, but I don't really notice anything like that anymore, or at least as much.

I heard it's strict.

My guess is stick to gaming topics till you build up a reputation, don't wade into politics right away because you can guarantee there are tons of spreadsheet detective reporters there watching your noob accounts every move.

Anything you say can and will be used to ban you
Humble, though Im not a fan of yours Im gonna give you straight genuine advice on this. Please, please dont sign up for Era. First off as mentioned they want you to register with a non free email-ISP address pretty much. That should set off red flags for anyone since they can potentially get all your personally identifiable info through that. At the very least GameFaqs has never required that I can at least say that in GameFaqs favor! To me having access to that is a free ticket to stalk every user there.

Secondly, the mod team therethey shoot first and never ask questions later. Doesnt matter if you were right or the ban was truly unjustified they wont listen.

Lastly, you probably already know this but I do want to mention Era is basically all of NeoGaf migrated over to there. Gafhad a lot of illegal and illicit shit going on there for ~a decade. Things that would make even you want to throw up. I honestly wish the FBI had seized Gaf and prevented Era from launching because its Gaf 2.0. Illegal and illicit shit continues to go on there. Humble, Im telling you this last thing in the most amicable way possible-like Gaf, Era will end up imploding too in the end, I dont even want to imagine what will set off implosion 2.0! When that does happen you wont want to be anywhere near the blast zone. I dont wish the fallout from being caught in that blast and being associated with that place on anyone! Please save yourself a ton of grief and drama dont sign up for Era. Nothing good will come of it and it wont end well.

Edit- While I get its not every user doing the illegal and illicit stuff its enough of them to where Id not want to be around any of it.
It's always sounded like a No Fun Allowed kind-of place.
It's full of insane people. Literal caricatures of what the right calls the "insane leftists" except they are real and 100% unironic.
The fact that you basically have to dox yourself to unknown lunatics who are not above going above and beyond if you say the wrong thing should be an immediate red flag.

Well, I just felt like experimenting with different forums and thought ResetEra would be a chill place for liberals like me to hang out in. But from what I've recently gathered, it doesn't seem to be very friendly to anyone who doesn't identify as far left. Of course, I'm open to hearing more about why ResetEra is bad before making my final decision.

Anyways I (and many other people) got banned there for being "transphobic", even though majority of us who got banned had a history of making pro-trans posts, because we questioned how effective the Hogwarts Legacy boycott. It's ban first, ask questions later type of moderation over there. I made some good friends there and still kept in contact with them, but I have no urge to make another account over there. I'm done with that place, but at least it is better than the r/gamingcirclejerk subreddit. That place is just toxic in general and I got banned there for saying simply saying that doxxing is wrong.

From what I've seen resetera is extremely stressful to routinely post on. I didn't know they required your information though. That's nuts in my opinion.

Giving any extremist site my personal info sounds like a terrible idea.

Take any stereotype of a SJW living on the Internet/Twitter and times that by 100. It's not only a cesspool, but it's toxic as well. I used to frequent there as a guilty pleasure since I lean Left on the political spectrum. But you can't have any nuance there (in good faith mind you) without everyone dogpiling you and eventually you getting banned. Stay away from there.

It sounds a lot like what Bluesky has become. Instead of constant bans, the more toxic SJW users just block people they don't like and/or put them in mute lists that falsely paint them as TERFs, racists, transphobes, capitalists, etc.
