Did youtube change the way advertisements work recently?

It used to be sure, there were long advertisements, but after 5 or 10 seconds I could skip them. You know, that little circle countdown thingy.

But now that's not an option, and I have to watch entire ads. This could include like 3 minutes trailers of movies, and here I am just wanting to watch a quick youtube video. What's going on here?

I've heard people mention these fabled multi minute unskippable ads for years now and I'm still not convinced they exist.

Okay now I'm upset, I just tried looking at the same video on my desktop and it has the same old skip button I can push.

It's my new phone then. I got the S24. There is now no longer a skip ad feature. wtf
