The problem is that The Boys isn't really
saying
anything. It's not doing anything with it's premise. "Wouldn't it suck if superheroes were assholes, and capitalism got its claws in them?" Yeah, it would... and...?
It's not that they hate caped heroes; I don't think you can really deconstruct anything you actually hate. Not very successfully, anyway. It's just that they basically came up with a premise and... just stopped. The character writing is great, but the central themes never go further than "wow, this sucks." Because things in that world have to suck. If things stop sucking, the series has nowhere else to go. It's why it feels overly edgy, in so many places.
I think it says a lot about blind worship of hero figures, whether they are evil superman, or literally girl hitler
