Religious figurehead inherently carries with it an air of chastity/piousness for people who belong to the church, so you're less likely to think "Oh is my kid actually safe with this person?" the way you would for a rando adult. And it's easier to be like "oh no if I report this I'm hurting the church not just getting justice for the person" or w/e.
Yeah it's also like people against gay marriages claiming their motive is religious based. Much of society lacks how shall I put it?
Being genre savvy. They hear someone declaring themselves Christian, they don't consider in the slightest that one claims religion just to appear good/honest. Good faith is important and all, but not to the degree of "Well, he/she said it, so it must be true".
