It's a great look at just how many crappy pilots there are that get passed on, and some that make it.

Wayne Knight was pretty hot in the 90s, being in 3rd rock from the sun, seinfeld, and even jurassic park with the second most iconic line. But not enough to be leading man material.

He was basically channeling Newman there (hence the topic title) and it was actually written by one of the Seinfeld writers, the other Larry.

Larry Charles, a lead writer on Seinfeld for like 5 seasons, and he also directed Sacha Baron Cohen's movies.

Looks like the remodeled era kitchen

I'm gonna have to watch this pilot more closely after work, but so far it seems like Newman inserted into a world vs a world properly made around Newman.
Competing every night, both ends, shoot inside/outside, fast break, transition, Monta Ellis have it all
