A team of researchers has cracked the code, and they did it by analyzing data from 17 previous papers that measured the penises of 15,521 men.
Turns out, the average flaccid penis is 3.61 inches long, while the average erect penis is 5.16 inches in length, according to a study published in the
British Journal of International Urology
.
In terms of girth, those numbers averaged 3.66 inches and 4.59 inches, respectively. In other words, the average erect girth is slightly smaller than the average cucumber, says consulting urologist at Kings College London and study author Gordon Muir, MD.
And if those digits came as a bit of a shock, its because heterosexual men tend to vastly overestimate whats considered normal. Men will usually say that eight inches is normal, explains Muir. Thats usually because theyve only ever seen another erect penis in a porn film,
he says. So while having an eight-inch penis may seem common, its well above average.
Still, whether a penis is the size of a tube of toothpaste or a cucumber, it should have no bearing on how well it performs between the sheets.
