They don't hold as much as you think. A sedan with a generous trunk is adequate and keeps your expectations in check.
The food here is terrible. My steak was so tough it attacked my coffee and the coffee was too weak to defend itself.

Part of why I like my 370Z is because it's a hatchback. I fit a full catback in there,
I was gonna go for a C7 Corvette a few years back, and one perk was still having a hatch back.
I was a bit envious of seeing Civic Type R owners being able to pack a complete set of track wheels+tires.

There's not really good justification for a sedan. It doesn't do...anything better, except maybe have a straighter roofline for backseat passengers, but that totally depends on car and compairson. It can try to match up in terms of fitting things, but it'd still need more contortion.
