Complex explanation that says the same thing.

Yeah, same s.c. where most of the members really want to restrict abortion right?

This is a really screwed up case. There is a huge homelessness problem, but I dont see how this is going to help fix anything with it. Its just mean.

By using pillows or blankets it's considered camping on public grounds, thus they can ticket the homeless for doing so.

Good luck getting blood from a stone.
What are you going to take from them, literally a security blanket?
This is unconscionably fucked up.

The SCOTUS is very close to being an outdated useless institution.

Kinda ironic that the far right's new savoir in the My Pillow guy....which is was odd even before this.
God I won't miss the boomers, and their Cold War mind set.
And make no mistake about it, the US still operates under Cold War and to some degree Slave Labor assumptions.

So, I will say it one more time.

The SCOTUS is very close to being an outdated useless institution.

You're several years too late. The filthy gop permeates the SC and has for some time. Its legitimacy is unquestionably flawed, given that imbecile, turmpy boy has several of them on his payroll.

The entire American system of governance is outdated and useless. It needs to be replaced with a Parliamentary system that will end the chokehold the 2 parties have on our current system.
Furthermore, The GOP is a Fascist Organization and must be destroyed
Capitalism says homelessness has to be illegal because those private prisons arent going to pay for themselves.
The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.
If there are no homeless, sick, or poor people, then it's going to be an egalitarian paradise where everybody contributes and nobody wants for anything. It's totally not the result of your decades of decadence without proper support structures. Criminalize the bad behaviours and not address the issues that lead to the behaviour.
Plus, they're icky and lead to a deprecation in our neighbourhood valuation. Therefore, all homeless people should be made to go away. No exceptions.

Oh, I well aware of that.
This has been going on for decades.

I would have to look into that.
But yes, our system is completely fucked up.

No one is going to the Supreme Court with just a "this is the right thing to do" kind of argument. I mean, that's the heart of it, but it's obviously supported by case law and interpretation.

yes, but no one here seems to be having a debate based on any legal interpretation of anything, which is how this case will/should be decided. it's all appeal to emotion.
Why is this even a court case?

Legality, morality, and being ethical don't always line up and as a society we should be working towards laws that improve people's lives, not make them worse. Weather or not something is legal is a pretty fucking poor guideline to use for as good or bad.

This is of course a rather extreme example but everyone involved in the holocaust was acting in an entirely legal fashion within Germany and it's occupied areas but I don't think you would be arguing against punishing them or that it was ok because it was legal.

Forcing the homeless to go without blankets in some areas in certain times of the year is just as much a death sentence as shooting them in the face. Thus the legality of it is irrelevant as to how I'm going view it.

So I'm going to make a further appeal to emotion here and say this as politely as I'm willing. Shut the fuck up.

got it. that was my point/thought. That said, SCOTUS can and should give actual legal opinions rather listening to people who use holocaust comparisons and saying "shut the fuck up" as an alternative to reasoned debate about the pros and cons of variations in policy/law

Why is this even a court case?

because there's a legal question that needs to be answered to determine what policies are or are not constitutional

Because Republicans hate "undesirables" and they know this Supreme Court will give them the decision they want to hear and allow them to have an excuse and feel better about themselves when they are needlessly cruel to the unfortunate.

Its more about cities not having a plan to actually address homelessness and instead seeking support from the court to break up homeless camps.

Its kind of an interesting case but I see it more as SCOTUS taking this case to fix a weird ruling and allow cities to breakup homeless camps.

Also this. Very much this.
I totally agree on the cruelty, I'm just getting stuck on the execution here.

Say the same homeless person, sans ID, gets four tickets over a period of time. Are the cops actually taking them to jail? Without ID, how are they even aware that a certain person is a repeat offender?
