Whole album sounds good.

I wasn't following the survival show, so I'm pretty blind to knowing whether or not the members' own talent shines or they just fit into a good production.

Also not sure where they fit in HYBE's current portfolio, other than being a way to fill out schedules between other comebacks and finding a way to use these available tracks before anyone else bought them out or something.
I'm liking Magnetic and Midnight Fiction

Brave Entertainment really sticks to their sound. It's not bad, but I feel like I already heard it.
Visually a bit of a disaster tho.

A combobulation of Blackpink songs. Pre-chorus sort of runs like "Love to Hate Me"

I much prefer "Like That", and I think it would've been a fresher look as a lead single for the group with a more western (Charlie Puth) inspiration, but it was a known leftover of his so I guess YG wasn't sure how this would be received and "Sheesh" was a way to explore much people would still buy into the past BP sound.

Song itself is solid imo

Video is a little jumbled. Like it's not awful, but there were missed opportunities imo to flow better against the track, and I think that can make or break the effectiveness of appeal. The stage view of the choreography is better than the M/V and the close up cinematic performance sets.

Albeit possibly pre-recorded (it's kinda rare for Momo to use that voice), I think the members in Twice's cover meshed better. Jihyo was fire there

There are probably limitations with their current vocals, but it seems they're making the most of it. In some radio sessions it seems a few members come short of projection or at least adjusting between the levels they'd apply for recording vs. live.

These type of collaborations never really take off for me. I guess it's a generational thing, because the only benchmark off the top of my head when it comes to crossing over with video games is Hikaru Utada/KH

I don't think there was any doubt for them to have to erase as far as coming with actual vocals. Would be nice if more newer groups step up to it.

Was watching a few clips of that Lesserafim performance at Coachella.

Some of it was a shouty performance, I guess necessary with the crowd and live instrumentals. That noticeably helped hide some of the holes of the usual members.

Some solid and some meh performances. Factoring getting gassed with choreography in later tracks and usual instability, I don't think it's something to get too critical over. They just can't be compared to the BP performances, which I think says more about how good BP (and maybe can throw in Aespa) performances are, more than how not-as-good Lesserafim performances are.

smh that's Lee Hyori's voice man, which fits her song perfectly. Or else the backtrack is hella strong. Twice did look better (my subjective opinion), and they did dance better, a significantly less subjective assessment, but then that's in no small part because Itzy was actually singing, I think pretty live at that, rather impressively. Not taking from Twice, I already loved this perf, but you made me appreciate Itzy's rendition better.

Aww I'm tripping.

I thought Twice put Jihyo and Nayeon in there as their best bet to handle the vocals.

lol, yeah those are prop mics. I'm sure Jihyo and Nayeon would do well if they tried, Momo though... that's just not gonna be her. The song has a lot of reverb/layered vocals also, might be why Twice sounded fuller.

A bit old but did you all hear Hyein had an injury while practicing or something, hope she gets well soon, doesn't affect their schedule too much.

Love it, just missing Seunghan who would've ate this up. Very f(x)/Shinee.

The Lesserafim discourse is funny. I could never get into them properly because their studio vocals were very vacant and here we are with their "surprising" live vocals, or lack thereof.

This made me laugh. I don't understand how HYBE has no vocal trainers and/or straight up do not prioritize vocals whatsoever.

Yeah, I've been liking the direction SM has taken with RIIZE, going back to music that....makes more sense that's not to say that NCT hasn't had some nice tracks over time.

The Lesserafim situation was sort of an elephant in the room, at the very least expecting Chaewon and Yunjin would be having to lead on vocal exhibitions. Somewhat leave some hope out that the others could develop. Booking them for Coachella this year was big gamble that blew this up into something else, but the director behind all this already made a mistake not watching out for how far off the mark they still were. I mean "Easy", is a pretty soft tone track. I would've expected the entire group to be able to hold their own in just the encores. Chaewon was a bit of a surprise because she also seems to have to support her voice differently now. She was sounding good on the "Unforgiven" encores, among her other solo live exhibitions.

Illit, sorry to add to piling on them, panned out to be as hollow as speculated to be. Pretty much bodies thrown into otherwise-ready tracks that could carry them. I wasn't following the reality show, and I've heard some speculation on how that went, but for sure the debut sat weird for me. Kinda messed to perhaps roast those members but HYBE will need to take notice that a good share of the public ain't having that.

Sounds like Boynextdoor holds their own, as well as New Jeans. Not sure who else is under HYBE's labels. Not sure if fromis_9 is actually still continuing.

I didn't watch the show either, but they are intriguing. Yunah really doesn't fit the concept but she is really talented. Iroha is a standout as well.

fromis_9 (like SVT, GFRIEND and NU'EST) don't count since they didn't train there, their companies were just absorbed into HYBE, lol. Other groups include ENHYPEN and TXT who vocally have nothing to write home about. Even BTS is nothing special, Jungkook is just ok. BOYNEXTDOOR is under a subsidiary that is managed by ZICO.

Supposedly they improved, some say it was more backtrack, some cite instances where noted wear evidently cut short suggesting it was legit.

Either way, the "Easy" encores were a bit of a head scratcher.

Cherry Bullet disbanded =/

A shame, their company (FNC) has a pretty bad rep with handling their artists. Liked Haeyoon since PD48.

Kind of ironic since Kokoro ended up (barely) debuting in ME:I (winner of Produce101 JP) a few months ago. Their first single has already sold over 250k or so in Japan meanwhile Cherry Bullet's total album sales probably barely exceed 100k in South Korea. X_x

Still bitter Rino didn't make it, but Ran is a star.

She was so instantly likeable for anyone new (put me in that category) when she came with highnote early in "Q&A". From that point on, that/she was the only reason I'd keep checking their next singles.

But yeah, I noticed things were getting a little silent with them.
I'm also wondering what happened to Weki Meki.

Again they're so K coded. Again I really enjoy Ebihara's vocals though. But remember when you couldn't really compare Korea numbers with Japan numbers? It's funny how the industry still works though, an idol leaves Japan and goes to Korea so that they can then go back to Japan. I guess Kokoro did that in her own way... Stan Miu.

Min Heejin freaked out, HYBE didn't take it lightly. I just hope whatever happens it doesn't hurt NJ. I don't even know what article to post, it's a huge, huge mess.

One thing that crossed my mind about NJ before was just how long that high would last. I mean the last 1.5 years was just crazy.

But I didn't expect it to potentially fall apart due to something like this.

It's kinda crazy that Hybe has 3 situations (granted this one is far more serious than the other two) kicking in at almost the same time.

But yeah, it's looking like a lose-lose. There's two wrong sides and it might be inevitable that NJ needs to split from MHJ for better or worse.

Wild is the right word. Then again a part of me is so jaded I'm just sickened by the whole circus. Specially when I think of the girls, man. Boys, too, like nothing is sacred anymore. I'd be right there with my popcorn enjoying the dumpster fire if it wasn't for them. They don't deserve this. Idols don't deserve this, we don't deserve this, Kpop doesn't deserve this. Yeah. Maybe the most upfront thing about this, is they didn't want to include chorography in the MV, and it might be a vocal-only track, which tends to happen for most artists after a few singles under their belt.

I think they had the option to make the instrumental heavier (especially the pre-chorus) but opted to concentrate on the showcase of the vocal pitch and ad-libs through the writing.

Kinda beating a dead horse when I dwell into how lukewarm I am about what this group puts out for the most part. I guess it'll always escape me as to how so many people get sold on them. A case of no they're not bad at all (I like the talent they've assembled), but I don't get where chart-topping and masses of views/streams come about from those singles.
