Only 8 teams still? I assumed part of the reason to merge was to grow in size
Im a massive football fan. Love college and pro football. Dont care at all about these other leagues. I dont want football year round with multiple leagues. Didnt care about USFL in the 80s, didnt care about Canadian football league, and didnt care about XFL first time around. Never was interested in arena league and this current merger doesnt interest me.

Goodluck to them though and for the people interested.

The Battlehawks are still around, so I'm definitely going to watch and I really want to go to a game this season. Hopefully it keeps most of the XFL rules and vibes, but with the USFL's higher budget, advertising, and production quality.

The USFL was making profit and had the backing of a major network and great advertising, but was getting bad ratings and the hub system was really unpopular. The XFL was getting better ratings (on worse networks than the USFL) and better social media numbers, but was hemorrhaging money. This merger was basically an attempt to combine their strengths to keep them both from dying.

But why did not every team survive? I don't know how many teams there were in both leagues but it couldn't have been 4 each I know at least Seattle Sea Dragons are missing
Im guessing they kept the teams with the best viewership and eliminated the rest

Still, only 8 teams is lame
I care enough that I read the gist of it, but haven't actively cared about the XFL since its first time around.

This is serious thread
My thoughts are that I don't even know what the USFL is and was under the impression that the XFL has been barely managing to keep its head above water for its entire existence.

This new UFL has 5 teams from the XFL and 3 from the USFL. There was some market overlap (both leagues had a team in Houston, for example) which made some teams redundant, and I guess they thought starting with 8 teams again and then gauging possible expansion later was better than starting with however many they would have had if they simply combined the leagues and removed the redundant teams.

If they do expand to 10 or 12 teams later on, I'd be willing to bet that the Seattle Sea Dragons would be at the top of the list for returning teams.

still think 8 teams is too few. Seattle not making the cut when their games always had a audience is also just a bad move.
If the UFL & CFL combined, they'd have 17 teams.

Would that be enough?
