Oof, working till 11PM and then back at work 7AM the next day sucks.

Got selected to work the holiday shift (first time in over a year I think, so not a big deal) for yesterday, and I got stuck with a 5-11 shift.

but man I couldn't get my brain to shut off after work until like 2am and then I'm back up at 6am and back at it. Now I'm cranky and tired lol.

I worked a few Clopens when I waited tables. Shit sucked. Get out at like 12 on a Friday to have to show back up at 730 on Saturday.

I'm glad I don't have jobs like that anymore, they were the worst.

Been there. Not an open to close deal, but worked til 9 then expected to be at another store an hour and a half away by 8 the next morning.

I did that too many times when I worked in retail in my younger years. It was already rough to do them, I can't imagine doing it now.

In high school I worked fast food and they routinely would schedule me for close on Saturdays and open on Sundays. That stopped when one day we had a huge rush of people come in right at close and we didnt get out until 2:00 AM and I had to be there to open four hours later.

Yeah, done it a few times and it's not fun.

If it's any consolation, there's little trouble getting to sleep that second night. Also, drive home carefully, because I almost nodded off on the trip home on one occasion.

The lack of any real cooldown from being in work mode is what kills me the most. I just cannot stay focused at all.

Just this past sunday(New Year's eve), I worked at my restaurant/bar from 3 PM to 2 AM. Then I left that job to bartend an after party from 2 AM to 5 AM. Then I had to leave that to be back at the restaurant at 6:30 AM for breakfast(somone called out last minute).

After working the after party, I went home to take a what was supposed to be a 30 minute nap. I overslept and woke up at 10:30 AM lmao. Missed the entire restaurant shift.

Not the greatest start to the new year lol

I feel like you might need to work less than 20 hours a day lol.

That was my life every Tuesday night for like 3 years (truck night at the warehouse)

Clopens were the worst part about retail

Those shifts should be illegal tbh, that's not even 10 hours between start & stop

gawd damnit, especially when you have to come in so damn early to cover a shift 8 hours after the last one.

If the company you work for has trouble maintaining employees you could just NOT do those shifts. If you're at least middle-aged you could just tell them that you're simply too old for that ****.

Germany has a law stating that once you finish your shift, you next shift has to be at least 11 hours later

Thats illegal where I live.
At least the employer gets in trouble if you dont get 11 hour rest between shifts.

I didnt mind those so much what I hated was the 12-8 second shift tbh. Couldnt do much at night because I was tired but couldnt do much in the morning because I had to be aware of the time
