and I'm all in! Let's gooo booty shorts :D
Dunks would help that though. It's painfully obvious the women aren't athletic like the men. Yes, I'm sure there people who would still dislike it because of other reasons, but the main issue is the lack of athleticism. This aint the 90s tho. Literally no one cares about dunks. People want to be chef Curry from downtown which the WNBA has plenty of.
here we go.
"I dont care about things women do unless they are hypersexualized"
is there even a point to dunking besides looking cool and tooling on the other guys? I thought layups were like a 100% thingYep, but its now out of vogue since even the opposing team cheers getting dunked on because it wasnt a 3 pointer so its a wasted possession.
I also don't watch basketball tho
although I guess if you can dunk that's probably also a 100% thing

Youd be surprised at the level of athleticism in the WNBA that doesnt involve dunking. The ball movement makes it a much more aesthetically pleasing form of ball too.
The main issue is cultural stigma that has been compounded by it being seen as a woke league thats being pushed on us. Every single post about the WNBA by ESPN is flooded with thousands of comments describing what they ate for lunch or crying about how theyll never have this league pushed on them.
The issue isnt dunks and idk how to fix it as gambling has been the only successful gateway.
Do you have a problem with boob streamers? Sex sells.Athletes are like camwhores to you? Lol why should women pursue anything unless they're doing it half naked amirite.
Sex sells.
I'm well aware a section of people hate the WNBA because the players are black, lesbian, or black and lesbian, but those people will hate it regardless. That section makes up a big chunk of the consistent/invested people US sports leagues rely on.
There's other people, like me, who dislike it because it's an inferior product compared to the NBA. The players aren't as strong or athletic, and the basketball is boring as a result. Is that really the reason tho. How much WNBA have you watched? You can be honest theres no judgement here I just like conversation about this stuff.
There's no solution either, because it's impossible to mask the difference between men and women's basketball.
And my hot take has been basketball is one sport where increased athleticism has made it a worse product. The meta is watching the one unfair athlete you have play boring hero ball unsuccessfully until he kicks it out to a bunch of dudes standing around playing a game of HORSE from half court.I feel like this just doesn't jive with the reality of the modern NBA. There's more off-ball movement than ever before and the pace and space concept that's taken over the league relies a lot on ball movement. The true era of "one guy goes to work while others stand around" was the iso- and postup-heavy 90s/early 00s.
VS what should be a balanced meta with beautiful ball movement as intended.
I4NRulez posted... here we go.
"I dont care about things women do unless they are hypersexualized"
I don't wanna call it an inferior product, as new standards make for a distinct variant of the sport. That being said, it is plainly less exciting for anyone that isn't a major basketball nerd.
That's a dumb take. This specific subject has a unique discrepancy between the male and female divisions.
I was responding to the person who was saying the only way to move forward with it is by putting them in revealing clothes.
good fundamentalsStop! You're killing me!
that more fun to watch
They don't get paid enough to dunk.

In a topic about basketball, not about "things women do"
The topic is about why WNBA players dont dunk. The other poster said "HURR PUT THEM IN LITTLE SHORTS HEHEHE SEX SELLS"
its a stupid, disrespectful, and juvenile thing to say.

I dunnoGuys don't watch that either
there's a very specific reason that guys watch women's volleyball

The true era of "one guy goes to work while others stand around" was the iso- and postup-heavy 90s/early 00s.You get consistent off ball effort in the playoffs which I still enjoy. Im moreso complaining about regular season where its one guy goofin and/or everyone is able to stand around behind the line and drop a 3 no matter what position they play and theres nothing you can do to defend it without insane unsustainable effort that is reserved for the playoffs.
Their rims are fine. This seems like the most accurate statement. Early on, the athleticism of the NBA wasn't impressive. Having a look around I am seeing shorter female NCAA players dunking, and I feel like with proper training the next generation could really show out.
The issue is that you arent getting uber athletic women in the WNBA yet. Its still a relatively young league and women have gravitated to other sports athletically. More women dunk now in the WNBA than before and soon you'll start seeing more freak athletes in there
This. There are plenty of women sports they are popular that dont focus on sex appeal. Not to defend the "sex them up" crowd, but are there really? Pretty much every popular women's sport, that I can think of, is coupled with a notable amount of sex appeal.

But no, players just standing around off-ball is just not how the game is played, even in the regular season.
The pace and in season tournament were both adopted from the superior WNBA product. The pace? Adopted from the WNBA? lol, c'mon.

I think people overrate the "sex appeal" in tennis. And really, how many men are watching women's volleyball? Like actually regularly watching matches, not just the occasional clip online. I'd have a hard time believing its viewership is anywhere near women's soccer.

Women's pole vaulting is probably the only sport with majority viewership coming from people who don't care about pole vaulting.
Well...now why would anyone do that?
Must be a good gambling sport then I suppose.
Volleyball, soccer, track.
The average height is 6'0 in the wnba. The average height of a soccer player is about 5'8, volleyball is 5'9. When i played sports all the basketball players doubled as volleyball players on the side. They arent all flooding to basketball.
Before the NBA adopted the WNBA/FIBA shot clock guys stood around taking a break to dribble 20 more seconds in the possession. Now they cant do that and the increased pace has teams dropping 150+What? The NBA has had the 24 shot clock since... 1955? Something like that.
The Austrailian women's basketball team wears those tight one piece suits during the olympics all the time and no one here can name one player on their team without google.
