Ah, it's so beautiful.

So which "great on deck" games should I get? I mostly got this to eventually play Cyberpunk and Baldur's Gate 3 (gonna see how Winter Sale goes), and I don't mind repurchasing some kickass games, like the Witcher 3 GOTY or something. Might also rebuy some games just for FAQing-related reasons, like Kingdom Come Deliverance.

I've only been playing Xcom2, Batman Arkham asylum, and Dishonored so far on mine.

I've spent way to much hours in xcom

Jealous of the OLED. The Yakuza games run great on the Deck, as does Elden Ring.
Currently playing: Skyrim, Hearthstone

Baseball oh no :(

at least outrun made up for it.

there's a chance i may play like a dragon ahead of the other 6 games in the series.
done with fall guys till next fame pass in december.
currently playing: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails From Zero (ps4)
Hmm, I still have some LAD fatigue from earlier in the year, so I dunno how up to more Yakuza stuff I am. Doesn't seem like any of it's on sale yet either. But, something to think about for the future -- I have Kiwami on PS4 and played some of that before. It's a fairly likeable world and cast of characters. (I do prefer the LAD-style stuff to action RPG kung-fu stuff, though.)

As for Elden Ring, it's weird, but Dark Souls games (or those similar to 'em) never really hooked me like other RPGs have. Maybe it's just not my style, or I don't like the invading aspect or something. Since Elden Ring is verified, though, I'll keep it in mind anyway.

Hmm, I've already played all three of these. In fact, I save-scummed most of XCOM-2, which puts it right in D:OS2 territory as games I'll probably never replay, haha. I did enjoy that and the others, though. Well, maybe not Arkham Asylum as much as Dishonored, but still.

I only have the OG model but if you plan to play a lot of 3D games, I suggest change the performance per game and set any 3D games locked 30fps. That way you get less heat and less frame drops.

What SSD do you guys use for the Deck? I have an external 2TB Seagate with nothing on it (I think), but I have no idea if that'd be good or not. Already saw stories of Redditors trying to format their stuff and it completely banjaxes their system/drive/whatever.

I just got BG3 earlier this week and I have a few hours into it. I hope I can get sucked into it.

I t seems like it would be hard to play on a SD though
I'm guessing he docks it and used a monitor and kb and mouse

I haven't tried BG3 yet but steam claims it is fine on Steam Deck. But yea, if you dock it, you can use a keyboard and mouse

What startup movies do you guys use? I ended up with 65,000 Steam Points for ordering through the website, but there really aren't many offerings yet. Was thinking the Star Field or Big Picture one.

I was thinking more of a USB/corded one, but I have no idea if that works. My laptop is only a couple years old, so maybe it'd be better to use it with that than the Deck (?).

Been thinking of getting one as a compliment to my OLED Switch, but I've already spent so much this season.

Maybe for my B-day next summer?

The mid-tier original steam deck has plenty of space imo. I got a 128 GB microSD to about double space and I still have too many games installed I really don't need all this space.
I have an OLED Switch and OLED TV and OLED Phone and OLED Monitor, can't imagine ever using an LCD screen again they look so ugly now

Resident Evil 4 Remake & Guardians of the Galaxy, which are currently on sale and run really well if you're into those type of games.

I've had no issues with this and it has fast speed. At some point, I'll probably upgrade to 2 tb.

I was just thinking how much I'd like to have a classic (PS1, Dreamcast, Sega CD, etc.) opening instead of whatever's currently in the Steam shop. Might have to go down the rabbit hole and see what else there is.

As for extra space, I ordered a few 512GB microSDs to just pop in. Hopefully the formatting horror stories I've heard won't brick anything.

Played an old Path of Exile character earlier and it was POPPIN' out. Might just make a new character and see what's up for awhile.

I ended up playing Path of Exile for about eight straight hours yesterday. Runs like a dream, which is surprising, 'cause every time I tried to do a minion witch build, it...didn't work out that well. Even on PS4.

Anyone ever play this Dorfromantik (city-building) game? Looks like you build cities and landscapes on a hexagonal grid and it goes on endlessly...? Maybe the only hex grid I'd ever like, haha.

Just the regular one. If I had acted quicker during that first sale, maybe I would've gotten the special edition one.

Played Dome Romantik though
Anyone play through Deadly Premonition 2 yet? Since it requires a controller (no KB+M), it's probably one of those games I'd never have thought about until I got a deck. Been hankering to play the first game a little bit, but have heard mixed things about its sequel.

Tower defense, huh? Not my favorite genre, but I did enjoy some game I got on 360 one time. Forget what it was called.

Yeah, even though the Deck is a recent thing, I was pleasantly surprised to see that lots of older games in my library (about 80 out of 600-ish) all have that green checkmark. And that includes Magic 2014, which WOTC pulled from the store like the bastards they are, haha.

Yeah, I saw that one of the editions was verified recently. Although I technically don't need to buy Skyrim a fourth time, since I'm trying to get away from being too console-dependent, I might pick that up on sale. Leaving Helgen, killing that grandma across the river for her enchantment altar, then going to right to the Dawnguard to get crossbows... The life of stealth archery has brought so much joy into my life.

But can it run Doom?
I've never been a big Doom guy, but I saw there's at least one game that apparently runs incredibly well (60 FPS, etc.)

It's actually more of a base defense game. Unless you dig up special tech then nothing is automated. I guess calling it dome romantik is a bit outdated since they changed the name to domekeeper. But if you've ever played a decent amount of flash games back in the day, It's a throwback to the game Motherload, where you dig underground in a grid pattern. You'll be unearthing precious gems to which you haul back to the surface and use them to upgrade your flight speed, drill power and carry capacity. In domekeeper its similar but you'll also be upgrading your ship and defenses.
Nice, got my microSD and it formatted like a charm. Guess Steam updated their stuff since last year, since some videos I saw on the subject said it took forever.

It's a good steam deck game, though I guess a lot of indie games are good Steam Deck games.

I got countless recommendations if you need.
Hmm, now that the sale is here, I'm gonna get:

  • Cyberpunk 2077 + Phantom Liberty
  • Skyrim Special Edition
  • Fallout 4 GOTY
  • Kingdom Come Deliverance (Royal Edition)

Some other stuff I want (New Vegas, MGS5, etc.) isn't at its historical lows, so I'll wait 'til the Lunar sale, I guess. Almost tempted to get the Mass Effect trilogy for six bucks, but I played through this (or last?) year, so it's not crucial.
