To the point where I just shop there now.

The major Canadian grocery chain, Loblaws, has lost its fucking mind and has been gouging people and jacking up prices like crazy. They also try to fight any attempted government oversight tooth and nail.

Walmart, meanwhile, complies with regulators, drops its prices, and unlike any Loblaws I go to, actually has produce and bread that doesn't mold over or rot within a few days.

Absolutely cynical corporate bullshit on Walmart's part, but hey I'll take what I can get rn

I go to any other grocery store that isn't controlled by loblaws. The problem with them is they also get revenue from shoppers drug mart and is the pocket with Doug. So, every change gives them more money that he does. Walmart and freshco are American owned. They comply with reducing prices.
Above all things, never be afraid. The enemy who forces you to retreat is himself afraid of you at that very moment.
I hate it but we do our groceries at Walmart too. We tried the local stores, but the prices are so much higher that it can't be justified.

There are only two things that I ever buy from Walmart grocery wise.

Tofu because it's $1 cheaper than Kroger
Mozzarella balls because only Walmart has the packs of the multiple small ones. Kroger just sells baseball sized ones.

Walmart has been a lifesaver since I lost my car. Delivered grocies make me feel lazy, but they're the only real option I have right now.

I live in the Midwest in the US. I use Wal-mart and a local chain. I buy all my meat and fresh produce from the local chain but on national branded stuff like canned goods you cant beat Wal-mart.

Some stuff is crazy different too. Like a 24 ounce jar of Raos spaghetti sauce is like $3 difference and on the 32 ounce jar its like $7 difference. Thats absolutely crazy.

But I don't blame you for using it, if times are hard. It is a life saver too

Yea the local grocer chain has gotten pretty bad with quality/prices/variety, especially when it comes to "fresh" produce.

The Walmart neighborhood market near me has better produce than any other store besides Whole Foods
To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.
I honestly don't get the hate with Walmart. I've been going there for years and it's completely fine to me

the wal mart around here has horrible gross produce that always looks kind of dusty somehow, but their prices for everything else are slightly closer to what the old normal used to be yeah
Looks like this gamer's paradise has turned into a gamer's hell...............................................
The curbside pickup is a great service. Sorry mom n pop, but if you can't compete I don't have a reason to shop with you.
Let's all please just get along.

Its that everywhere else is better. I really cant imagine living in an area that is so shit Walmart of all places has better produce
The Walmart nearest me doesn't do produce, so my husband and I don't usually go there. Thankfully it's next door to an international grocery with an excellent produce selection and a butcher, so between that and CostCo that's most of our groceries, and we only do Walmart for certain canned goods.

Man, I can't help but feel that some of the hate is some weird "the poor people shop there".

Ehh,it'll obviously depend on your area, but I've shopped at Walmarts in multiple states, as well as whole foods, sprouts, Kroger's, HEB, Central market... It's all the same man. Some will have better produce at times than others.

But maybe I'm really naive and blind to differences

There was a time where they were pushing out small/local places that couldn't compete w/ them and reducing choices. So they were the villain, and I'd say justifiably.
But now the Big Bad is Amazon and other online-only sellers that will eventually put all brick and mortar out of business, so even giant conglomerates like Walmart seem less bad by comparison, b/c at least it's still a physical store you can get things in person and right away, and is employing people locally.
I think a similar "evil corp gobbling up local stores to poor embattled brick and mortar just trying to stay afloat" heel/face turn would be happening w/ Gamestop....if their management wasn't so dumb.
I was going to suggest aldi until I saw you mentioned loblaws. Yeah, Canada is fucked when it comes to groceries (and many other things).

Yeah, I'm sure some of it is those biases from the past.

Canada's national economy deserves to be ruined if they can't compete.

I finally found some Gold Peak Peach Iced Tea.
at the Walmart near my new place.

I hurt both shoulders reaching to the back of the fridge, but I scored 7 bottles
