I just now got it today because I forgot it was coming out and I just got the first star. Random thoughts.

The controls are different, right? Unless I'm losing my mind. You used to hold down Y to have to sprint, but now it's auto sprint, right?

The music is more amazing than ever. I really feel like newer Nintendo games have really dropped the ball with music. Both the new Zeldas and Mario Wonder have very low key, minimalist music. RPG is so god damn bombastic. Mushroom Kingdom theme was just so in your face.

Is it still best to go for the highest increase when leveling up? Or is there some kind of meta strat here?

Is Bowser still strangely bad or did they buff him? I remember when I was a kid playing we always used Bowser, thinking he was the strongest and not realizing he sucked. I only learned he sucked as an adult. That's probably why I never felt like the game was as easy as everyone always says it is.

Sucks that the frame rate drops below 60 fps sometimes.

I'm still using my old and tattered players guide book for the original to make sure I get all the hidden chests.

I really like that they added exclamation points for when you're supposed to hit the A button in battle. Sometimes it was so mysterious. For instance, when hammer brothers throw a ton of hammers at you. I never knew exactly what counted. But now I know you just need to do it on the very first hammer. Also nice of the game to tell you when you can't block against stuff, like with the fire wall attack. Little kid me would just try to do it anyway and not know if I was failing or not.

In the options you can change it so that you walk by default and have to hold L or R to run.

Oof I wouldn't want that. Can you have the Y button make you run instead?

I still have no idea how to get that frog coin in the Pipe Vault, even after actually doing it.

Game's a LOT shorter than I remember. 3.5 hours and I'm already at the wedding part.

I just finished the sunken ship, and holy crap, I forgot how long that section is. It's like two dungeons.
...I think I'm done here...

Are you just ignoring all the battles or...

Not at all. I mean I'm not fighting every bad guy, but you don't need to. I've just played it so many times I can blaze through it I guess. I'm even stopping and making sure I get all the invisible chests. And I'm talking to everyone too. Helps that I beat Boshi on first try.

People speedrunning have already finished watching the ending at that point. Your pace isn't half bad for being leisurely.
Why is it that he can hit a 3rd baseman on a frozen rope from 300 feet away, but he can't hit a 12 foot tall catcher from 60 feet 6 inches away?

Booster's Hill chase seemed way harder than it originally was. It's a lot more busy seems like.

Far more hectic. Only got 10 flowers last time.

I'm using Bowser a lot more in this version because of the added ability to swap party members during combat. Mario/Bowser/Geno is a great team for boss fights, swapping in Mallow for random encounter wave clears or Peach for mutes/"oh shit" healing.
Bowser's stats are still the same. They did give him a weapon in postgame that almost doubles the attack of his ultimate weapon and makes him have the highest attack stat out of everyone now

It's weird to me that for punch attacks you now hit the button when they've fully bent their arm back (arm is bent during windup) rather than when their arm is fully extended during the punch itself.

I do also miss the Spade, Club, Diamond, Star, Heart playing cards motif. It's a great remaster though. Definitely worth getting for anyone who never played the original version. Everything is here pretty much.

I definitely forget more of the game after the sunken ship part, probably because when I was a kid I dropped off around there fairly often on replays.

I also feel like the game sort of opens up a bit at this point and things take longer to progress. Before this, you just straight shoot through stuff. But with areas like Land's End and Belome's Temple, you sorta run around a bit and do side quests and stuff. Game feels slightly more challenging at this point too.

But switching out characters really does make it super turbo easy when it comes down to it. Gone are the days where you need a specific party, with Peach always there. She's my least used now, I just use bruisers for fighting trash, then bring in Peach when people need healing. I'm doing a lot more Thought Peaks too with Mallow since you can just put him in and out.

Just got to Nimbus Land. FUCK those two super hard vine jumps on the left route climbing up.

I remember only one harder vine jump, but it's only difficult if you don't use the hidden platform.
