watSomehow r/singularity shows up on the reddit feed when I'm not signed in, and it's full of people who are WAY into ai and ai accessories. The first post is an amalgam of the kind of shit you see there.
TC the kinda guy that was against the invention of the automobileTc the kind of guy who works on software and knows a grift when he sees it.
Theyre the same cryptobros who tell you how the blockchain is going to do everythingAs in like, generally the exact same people who looked for a new grift when nfts imploded. It's funny as shit lmao

Yeah I used to be in the Ray Kurzweil singularity camp too, and then you see how quickly it devolves into what is essentially tech based religion with all of these grand promises in the near future with little evidence to back it up
And this is how we aren't remotely close to actual autonomous vehicles that operate like or better than a human in any environment even though it's been promised yearly by the likes of Elon for almost 10 years now (I think he finally shut up about it when he started the Twitter shitshow). We haven't tackled driving yet after 4 decades (DARPA first demonstrated off-road autonomous vehicles in 1984), so I'm wondering why anybody with a functioning brain thinks superintelligence is right around the corner.
For background, I have a PhD in computer science and do military research on autonomous robotics and NLP.

I don't mind the AI Maximals, seem more trustworthy than the AI Predacons.Nice "Transformers: Beast Wars" reference.
