Born and lived there for 27 years. Went to the University of Iowa. That said, was a moderate place when I was there and its gone super hard right. Top 5 most conservative states in the country now.

I only go back to visit family or to see a Hawkeye game now.

I live in Iowa. I like the low population, small towns and rural country living for most of the state. But its pretty boring. It doesnt bother me much these days as Im 47 and prefer the boring lackadaisical lifestyle but drive me nuts when I was younger which is why I left and went in the military and got out of here for awhile.

Geographically Im not crazy about all the farmland. I dont find the beauty in it others do. I just find it flat and plain. We get 4 seasons but summers are hot and humid and winters can be brutal cold with windchill and blizzards.

Its cheap cost of living, reasonable housing, access to farm fresh foods and excellent meat. Its nice knowing exactly where your food comes from. I make decent money, especially compared to cost of living and am on track to retire fairly early and live comfortably.

I dont hate Iowa but dont love it either. If I won the lottery Id leave for a destination more to my liking scenery wise and weather wise.

I grew up there. Good, quiet place to live for the most part. But yeah the far-right took over the past 10 years or so which is really disheartening.

Let's all please just get along.
