Actors in the US have voted in favour of a potential video games strike, raising the prospect of another walkout in Hollywood.
Members of the Sag-Aftra union voted 98% in favour of taking action over the gaming industry agreement that covers voice, motion capture and stunt work.
Actors are already on strike from work for film and TV studios.
Good. Everyone working at those studios should go on strike and force them to fix their shitty practices like crunch time.

Now have the devs form a union and strike as well.

Perhaps this will help conditions somewhat but probably notYeah, striking is very necessary, but mocap and voice acting is just a part of why game development is terrible. This doesn't apply to crunch and long hours for the dev teams.
Is it just me or is half the country going on strike?

HOLLYWOOD EXECS TARGETED GAMERSNo, they targeted shitty "AAA" games. Gamers will be fine.
gamers!!
RISE UP!!! LET US MAKE SURE THEY GET THEIR DEMANDS!!!!!!!
So many strikes going on. That's a pretty good sign.
Bring on more ports and remasters for a while...Japanese games will be largely unaffected, by just skipping the dub.
I mean it is
But it also isn't, when you think about it
I mean it isIt's also a sign shit has gotten out of hand and unions actually need to flex their power, atleast in my mind. Yeah it's not great but it needs to happen and probably in even more sectors of work.
But it also isn't, when you think about it
New century (almost 25 years in), and people are challenging the old ways. If it's done right, this will be a good thing.
Inb4 Japanese games cut English dubsThey do that now "because costs".
Is it just me or is half the country going on strike?i guess people are tired of being treated like crap
Soon: https://youtu.be/ccVTCGpBcdUThe voice of Uru should be in everything. Dude is so sassy.
I wish for the absolute best for the strikers.I don't know, I feel like they have a bit of leverage if they show examples of how bad voice acting can get. For example:
This is going to be an interesting one though, if only because I'm pretty sure there is a much higher percentage of non-union actors involved in video games compared to movies or TV. Combine that with actor performance having less comparative importance in a game and the strikers don't have a ton of leverage.
I don't know, I feel like they have a bit of leverage if they show examples of how bad voice acting can get. For example:The problem is that many people will absolutely play through bad performances if the game is good. In a movie/TV show, the performance, along with the writing, is the most important aspect of the medium. In video games, it just isn't as important. I'm not saying it isn't important, I'm not saying the actors don't deserve better pay and benefits, but only that it's significance to the medium overall is secondary.
