I didnt go at them because Im on the job. I want to keep my job. Plus, she didnt mean any harm by what she said. It was just ridiculous though.

She was talking sports to me and said she likes humble athletes. Sure. I agree. She started talking about how she doesnt like Jordan because he is an ass. Makes sense. He really is. Then she started talking about Kobe

She said she likes Kobe because he is a gentleman. Then she said That is why God took Kobe. He wants real angels up there.

What?! God is out here taking lives, no matter the age, because he wants more angels in heaven? Really? Am I the only one that thinks that sounds stupid?

I know there is the famous line when someone passes. God works in mysterious ways. Its pretty much someone saying they dont know why that person died. Its ambiguous. What she said though? I dont know. Maybe it pissed me off more than it should have.

That is entirely unbiblical.

The whole dying and immediately going to heaven or hell thing is entirely pagan. That is not what the Bible teaches.

When you die you are simply asleep until the resurrection for the end times.

But more directly on topic yes that's really stupid. Kobe Bryant was no angel. He was a shithead just like most athletes tend to be. Not all but most. They turn into rich and powerful people that cheat on their wives and do a lot of questionable things

Well if you cease to exist you would be separated from God. But how I have come to understand it's in his mercy that he wouldn't make us suffer eternally but rather we just cease to exist. Which to me definitely sounds like a better option.

My point was I remember being told (as in, hearsay, not taught) that the suffering in Hell is caused by your own rejection of, and separation from God; not that youre actively being tortured or whatever.

Which actually fits in with religions original purpose. Victim blaming to indoctrinated and uneducated masses. Follow our- I mean Gods orders or youll go to Hell and itll be your own fault, heathen.

Especially when that persons death doesnt lead to, say, their children being motivated to help fight the disease that killed them and go on to make great contributions to medicine and eventually political outreach to social service funding. The kind of story youd find in a narrative.

Nah, instead their death leads to infighting over their will, families being destroyed and people losing their jobs and homes, grandchildren turning to drugs and crime and getting killed over drug debts.

One person dies tragically, and the reason it happened was to snowball and destroy their entire family. Thanks, God!

They havent sat down and really thought about it. Theyre just casually identifying as Christian. A friend of mine is a textbook example. He routinely violates most of the commandments and is only a little push away from dropping the whole thing. He just hasnt been given that push.

Actually it does. Ask orthodox Jews why they think we are living in the year 5783. For a book written by god, the Bible has a gigantic amount of factual mistakes. Not to mention that it encourages rape, slavery, bigotry and genocide.

But seriously, the Bible was written by man and has been edited and changed so many fuckin times. Who knows which versions are the closest to his will or what about the books that were left out?
