Literally anytime a game gets a score that someone disagrees with, the ole reliable they paid/didnt pay enough for the desired score is inevitable. The game scored well? They paid for it. The game scores not as well? Guess they didnt pay enough.

For all these types of posts, is there proof that this has actually ever happened, much less it being a widespread thing?
It's an easy way to deflect from whatever your preconceived notion of what the score "should" be

But it doesnt hold up when given the slightest of thought lol. People rn are saying that IGNs 7/10 starfield review is because they werent paid enough. Like fucking microsoft isnt gonna throw all their money at perfect reviews if this was actually a thing?
I think the speculation is more towards relationships between publishers and reviewers. Many of them rely on getting games early, so shitting on what they eat could burn bridges. Though I don't know if anyone has spoken out about that being a thing.
Gamers: IGN is a joke, nobody takes them seriously. Literally no one cares about what IGN has to say. Can't spell "ignorant" without IGN, amirite? Top kek.

Also Gamers: *Shits themselves and foams at the mouth for weeks when IGN puts out a review score they don't agree with*

Also, Also Gamers: *Happily jerks themselves off when IGN gives something they're looking forward to a good score*
What is up, my sister!?

Theres no endgame lmao. This isnt some kind of gotcha topic, i just constantly see this type of rhetoric about reviews and have never seen any reason to actually believe it
The more usual problem is user-reviews. Suddenly anyone from Trump to Marilyn Manson can give a score to a game.

Video Game IGN: Mystic. Ask me for a joke, I come up with some good ones.

yea, stuff like this totally shits on their conspiracy theories.

so, companies pay for good reviews, but Microsoft, one of the biggest companies in the world, isn't willing to pay for better reviews for Starfield, one of the biggest titles to come out this gen?

something isn't adding up

also, not giving video game press access/advertising due to poor/not the greatest reviews wouldn't be the smartest option since it means less press for their games.
Don't you agree, Zach?

Jeff Gerstmann was fired from Gamespot for not giving games the scores publishers wanted, that was kind of a big deal.
