Anyone watch it? Is it worth it if never played the games?

If you've never played the games it's just Death Race the TV show
I am Mogar, God of Irony and The Devourer of Topics.
I liked it. There were a few slow parts, but it moves at a fairly good pace. The comedy blends in really well. Its fun to point out who the characters in the show are from the game(not a thing of you never played it). But, even my wife liked it and shes not a video game person at all.

Haven't watched it for myself, but I've heard that it's surprisingly good despite the trailers making it look bad
as a huge twisted metal fan, absolutely. there are a billion ways they could've made this a terrible show, but it's actually really good considering.

season 2 needs to happen.

So is it like Last of Us where knowing the game makes some references and some characters have a little more meaning to us gamers, but still worth it otherwise? Sounds as if maybe so based on Mrs Scorpion.

There aren't even any modern Twisted Metal games to play.

Me and the wife binged it in one day, we both liked it a lot, she knew nothing about the games going into it.
And as the people bend, The moral fabric dies, Then country can't pretend to ignore its peoples cries.
Show had no right to be as good and fun as it was. Looking forward to the inevitable 2nd season which will be the actual tournament itself.
Rage is a hell of an anesthetic.
I think I will give it a shot, especially because the episodes are only half an hour each
