It still has the best soundtrack in any Mario Kart game tbh. The mechanics and AI are archaic these days but the tracks are fun and it oozes that Mario 64 era charm.
the credits is the only song that really stays in my head
Blue shell birthplace. That fuckin blue shell.

I played quite a bit of it and don't remember ever actually seeing it.

When there's only one race, and that's mankind, then we shall be free
It was fun just to explore the tracks. Actually had little odd places to go with that subliminal space feel.

It was so cool to drive around the Peach's Castle courtyards lifted directly from Mario 64.

It was a fun game. Today, I think of its eight playable characters as the "main" cast of the Mario universe.

We all threw at least one race just to drive around the castle courtyard.

It was nice to be able to explore. Sadly;m, Nintendo doesn't allow that in modern Mario Kart. You go off the beaten path even just a little but, and Lakitu is scooping you up.

The Blue Shell was in MK64 and Super Citcuit, but only human players could obtain it in those games. It didn't become a menace until the AI was able to obtain it starting in Double Dash.
Agreed, TC. The soundtrack really makes me nostalgic for the mid-90's.

The AI never actually used it. Same with the other shells except for the basic Green Shell.

Funnily enough, I played MK64 before played or even knew about Super Mario 64, so I had no idea what the deal with that was and also spent a good amount of time trying to get inside of the castle (though turns out, if you manage to clip through the doors, you just get sent to an invisible water pill and pulled out by Lakitu).

Probably mostly nostalgia, but I still think its a great game. Top 3 Mario Kart for me for sure.
You should never let Earl drive. . .
