You can develop allergies at any time in your life. Though it would be odd if you became allergic to something you are exposed to on a daily basis.

I dont know about suddenly, as in going from no reaction to cant live with a cat anymore. But it is possible to develop new allergies at any time.

Yes, I had a friend whos wife had this happen. She was a veterinary assistant and had to change careers as well as give her cat to a friend. She was crushed.

How sudden was it? Did she instantly go from zero to 60, or was it a gradual change over weeks or months?

Tbh it was 20+ years ago but I recall she was getting sick and having respiratory issues. It gradually got worse, maybe after a week she had gone to a doctor and they tested for allergies or however they do that. It was kind of weird because she was able to keep her dog without that affecting her.

Years ago I almost had an asthma attack because I developed a cat allergy and didn't know it. I want to say I was around 20. I had never owned a cat myself, but prior to that had been around them with no issues.

My wife had cats when we met. So for the last 11 years I've been taking a Zyrtec daily so I don't die because of a cat.
