My hot, spicy take on Metroid Prime - It did NOT age well. *Spoilers*

Yeah, the backtracking and combat is a lot worse than I remember. All the scanning feels about the same, but you don't have to do most of that. It's not a deal-breaker though, and the remaster is still worth it.
