I know, I know, gambling doesn't have to be rational, but I don't understand big bets with low payoffs. Like looking at today's game, they have a safety happening as -2000 for "no" ,which would be your friend betting $13500 to win $675. I just feel emotionally like I'd rather be on the "bet $675 to win $13500" end of things.

Do these big gamblers really win in the long run? I would think betting companies would be aware of rich people slowly robbing them away and would have the odds titled so it overall favors the betting organizations.

Well, I know for him he kinda looks at it like he looks at stocks. If you put 13,500$ into a stock, and a year later have made 800$, thats not terrible. The difference is after you lose 1000$ on the stock you can punt it, but on the gamble you get that instant gratification of winning or losing

I think anybody who is willing to make bets like this are also making bets not like this

the house is always gonna win, so for every person making 800$ on a sure thing bet, there are 800 people betting 100$ the other way trying to hit big

Chiefs up big towards end of game. Eagles elect to attempt a hail mary. Mahomes elects to take the field on defense as a means of excitement that he is winning the super bowl. Picks off the hail mary attempt. TC welches.
