Yes. Because when I was a young boy myself, my favorite characters tended to be the women in cartoons. Like Numbuh 5 or Shego.
If anything, it being for young males is

why having relevant and important female characters is so important. If they are only presented as prizes and love interests, it sets a bad precedent.
