This ever happen to you? There's a word you need at the tip of your tongue but your brain can't think of it? I probably have dementia or something.

The word is kinda like appease or something close to it. It's used when you don't really want to do something, but just to make another person happy you do it anyway. Used in a sentence:

"I knew the keys weren't inside, but just to BLANK the old fool I went and looked anyway."
