its very similar to software on a computer. like with computers, there are partitions, operating systems, partitions, etc. rooting your device tests all of that. it just has so many similarities to a desktop computer, which i also happen to know shit about lol. if i can't do one thing, it makes me question whether i can do the other.
Most devs/programmers don't know shit about computers either. That's for people like me who do sysadmin/infrastructure stuff. I have a senior level job title with 13 years in IT. I don't know anything about coding outside of the intro C++ and Java classes I had to take in college for my degree. The CS/IT field is so massive and constantly changing that it is impossible to know even a 1/3rd of it all. Programming languages, networking, databases, cyber security, desktop/server operating systems, cloud, etc. All of these are wide career fields with several career paths under each.
The one quality that will make you successful in this field is the ability to say "I don't know anything about that but give me some time and I will figure it out." You think my CS course taught me anything about old telephone systems? Hell no but my first IT job told me it was part of my responsibility. When a new office extension needed to be added, I had to google the phone system model number to find a manual so I could get the job done.
