you know, back during the Black Death
It don't matter. None of this matters.
I'm pretty sure that was most of the black death actually(or at least what caused it)

Also resulted in Jewish people being attacked once again in history iirc.

well, people were definitely in denial about how it actually occurred and spread, and how you should or shouldn't treat it, but that's a different thing from outright denying its existence

I'm sure there were plenty who didn't think it was a disease, but more of a condition that God personally gave to individuals he chose to die.

I mean, historically, one of Europe's collective mottos was "When in doubt, blame the Jews for it" until 1945. Economy tanking? Blame the Jewish population. Plague? Jews aren't dying, blame them. Crop failure? It's because the Jews don't follow the right religion, must be their fault. King is impotent? Yeah, that too. (Except in England, where the proper procedure is to blame and behead the Queen.)

I read that the Pope survived under a similar faulty logic of "right for the wrong reason". I can't remember exactly why he was told to sit in a room with multiple fireplaces blazing in the summer, but it worked. Not really because of any religious connotation, just because rats are smart enough not to want to go in a room that fucking hot, therefore the fleas wouldn't go in either.

Given the role of religion in society in the 14th century, I'd say that it's probably a good thing the Pope didn't die of the Black Death.

i have a good idea for a meme where it's in England in the time of the plague, and the "bring out your dead" cart is rolling through the streets, and there's some dude pointing at it while standing on a soapbox and shouting "IT'S A LIBRUL HOAX!"

I seem to recall some movie about Nostradamus that covered this for awhile.
