What a spineless, tepid, cowardly excuse for a movie.
Zero social commentary. Zero shock value. Zero anything of interest whatsoever. What a complete waste of time. The original was a classic. This movie said nothing.
I mean the robots never even did anything bad. They literally worked perfectly. The bad guys were right. In both this new movie and the original RoboCop, the bad guys are trying to create robots to create a police state, and in the old movies the robots always defect and go crazy, thus displaying how the bad guys are in fact bad guys and you need humanity in the equation. In the first movie, the mech filled that one businessman with bullets, in a horrific scene of violence. In part 2, they put an insane man's brain in a robot and it went insane and caused tons of death and destruction. In this new movie, the robots the bad guys created literally didn't ever do anything bad. They were literally just police and did their jobs correctly. Michael Keaton was right in what he was trying to do.
The movie has nothing to say.
How you gonna make a new version of RoboCop and not even make commentary on modern day police officers basically being America's biggest gang and getting away with murder? There are so many things you could have done with a new version of this IP, and yet they went blander than bland.
Not even a spec of blood either. Smh. I can imagine a new RoboCop in the vein of something like The Boys from Amazon. Ballsy and shocking and also biting in its commentary of American life. That's what it needed to be. Instead, we got the blandest movie possible.
I definitely won't buy that for a dollar.
