I bought a lego set for the first time in possibly decades. It's the medieval blacksmith. Haven't started on it yet, gonna wait until I can sip whiskey while doing it. I feel like it's a solid set for the price point compared to other sets. Similar sets cost over 200 bucks it seems like. And the medieval stuff was always my favorite theme.

Have you bought any lego sets recently? What are your favorites?

too damn expensive. i bought a $20 set in 2016 before companies decided they were just gonna double the price of everything.

I recently bought the Jurrasic Park T. Rex Breakout set and the Dagobah diorama set... I love both, they turned out great...

Thought I had a pic of the Dagobah set too...

Spyrius was my jam as a kid.
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.
Funny you should say that, because I too hadn't bought a Lego set in years until my brother showed me the Medieval Blacksmith a few months ago. Have since spent over 2 grand on Lego sets + a couple Ikea glass bookshelves to put them in.

The Blacksmith is still my favorite - so many cute little details and creative builds, plus I'm a sucker for Castle sets (hence why I'm about to drop another 400 bucks on the Lion Knight's Castle despite my better judgment). Other noteworthy recent purchases include:

Police Station: tied with Downtown Diner as my favorite Neighborhood sets. So many cute little details.

Downtown Diner: out of all the discontinued Neighborhood sets, this is the only one I craved having, to the point where I was willing to fork over aftermarket prices to get it.

Assembly Square: I feel lucky that they decided to keep this one available long past its normal retirement. Really helps tie the Neighborhood together.

Boutique Hotel - really cool set. Never in a million years would I have figured out the base architecture without instructions. The adjacent fine art gallery is what sold me on the set.

I also recently bought the HP Chamber of Secrets set, mostly to have pieces for a later non-HP build (and to get the Grand Staircase promo item).

So what you're saying im gonna get hooked too lol.

I think there's something about that blacksmith set that's appealing to oldies coming back. The medieval theme combined with how much more detailed it is compared to past sets is really appealing.

The hotel one also looked really cool. Is the book store kn the same series? That looked cool too.

I'm also eyeballing this 3 in 1 pirate ship.

Could be, lol. In my case, I'd recently been blessed with a substantial raise; I'm frugal enough in my day-to-day life that I can afford a rare spending spree, so it's been a good excuse to rekindle an old hobby.

The Bookstore and Lion Knight's Castle are going to be my last big purchases for awhile, though. There's plenty of things that look cool (like the Loop Coaster and Haunted House), but I don't consider them 'essential,' for lack of a better term. Somewhere down the line I'd like to start special-ordering pieces and build some of my own creations, like a massive Castlevania-style Dracula's Castle. But for now I'm content to grab up the best sets that are available at the moment.

Yes. The currently-available Modular Buildings sets are Assembly Square, Bookstore, Police Station, and Boutique Hotel. Everything prior to that you're going to have to buy aftermarket with a steep upcharge. The Bookstore supposedly is not getting retired this year even though it was next on the list, so you've got some time to grab them if you're interested in building a collection. Apparently Lego is also strongly considering revisiting some of the original sets - that theme has come a loooong way in terms of detail / functionality, the first few sets didn't even have interiors. I'd love to see them redo the Grand Emporium or something similar - a full-blown department store with contemporary build creativity + detail would be sick.

I ordered the new Atari one.

Also have The Office on back-order if it becomes available.

anyone have a store selling loose parts they want to shill for?

I'm getting a collection ready to sell, and a ton of pieces are broken and need replaced =( those 1x1 slopes they fell in love with over the last 10 years are apparently just garbage, especially in the clear colors.
Boom! That's right, this is all happening! You cannot change the channel now!
They're mostly coloring books on tape. I don't even know how that works...
Mt gf bought me two Lego sets this year. The Seinfeld one for Valentine's Day, and the Horizon Tallneck for Father's Day.

So I googled this, and apparently one just opened in a small shopping plaza less than a mile from work, where I regularly get my Taco Bell. Apparently I was looking right at it just two days ago while I was sitting in my car eating my crunchwrap and didn't notice it, lmao. Thanks for the suggestion!

No prob. I think its a franchise so experiences may vary. The one by me is small but the staff is knowledgeable and friendly and they have a great selection of random figs/sets. They also have a build-your-own-fig 3 for $12 deal so I like taking my kids there to do that.
Recently scored the Delorean for less than 200, still need to build it but I'm excited.

I started collecting a couple years ago after my divorce. I bought the NES set. Since then I've bought a ton. I have the lambo and Bugatti technics sets, both Ghostbusters ecto 1s, back to the future car, 89 batmobile, a bunch of speed champions cars, daily bugle, other modular buildings, waiting for the Dr strange modular to arrive, and a few others.
I'll send a pic once I'm home
Jerry, it's Frank Costanza!!! Mr Steinbrenner's here George is dead - call me back!!!!
I too got back in to lego recently. The Horizon Tallneck was my first kit in like 20 years, and I was immediately hooked. Built a ton of the 18+ kits since then and loved every one of them. Just last night I finished up the Super Mario 64 question mark block and I'm still blown away from how clever and unique each kits feel.

looks like the closest one to me is two states away =/

there is an official lego store about an hour away that i've never been to, but as i understand it their loose piece selection is rather limited. so i don't think they can help me out for this. i do want to go when i can afford a spending spree, though.

Legos were too damn frustrating for me as a kid, and as an adult I couldnt justify spending hundreds on a set to build once and display

Damn, too bad. The one by me has a nice hodgepodge spread of loose pieces.

I went there yesterday after work, seemed like a great place! Didn't have a lot of time to kill, but I was able to snag the one minifig I've been wanting since I started collecting them a few months ago (the 'hollywood starlet,' aka Marilyn Monroe). Up to this point I've been buying minifigs from Toypro.com, and they suck at including accessories; Bricks and Minifigs includes all the accessories, which is a big plus.

Still can't believe my luck that there's a brick and mortar store that caters exclusively to my (relatively) niche interest less than a mile from where I work. For most of my life I had to drive over an hour just to get to a damn mall.

I picked up the Lambo technic set from a local Lego store and was crushing it, but so many pieces missing. Moved and I somehow forgot one bag of parts so waiting until I go back so I can continue working on it.

I've always loved Lego and have boxes full of it, though it's been years since I've bought anything new. It's just too expensive now.
I'm moving soon and they're still packed from my last move unfortunately.

I have several (8 or so) marvel sets and ordered a bunch of marvel minifigs to flesh out the scenes.

I have the Milano (Starlords ship) with the 5 original members fighting Thanos.

I have the airport battle (captain america civil war) with all 5 members of both sides along with a minifig I made to look like a Stan Lee cameo dressed as a janitor.

I have the hulkbuster (avengers 2)

I have the colleseum from Thor Ragnarok.

I have Nick fury with Lola (red sports car that flies)

I have a small scale spiderman bank robbery from homecoming that I fleshed out with a bunch of random spiderman villains and jjj nearby

And I have a heros vs villains city block i set up with any assorted characters I'd bought that didn't fit into another scene. Ghost rider, modok, an extra hulk, iron man, spiderman, and so on. Can't remember who all was there off the top of my head.

I also have a detective agency city block scene that I put a bunch of Harry Potter minifigs on for fun. My wife likes to get me those random minifig bags as stocking stuffers so I've gotten a bunch.

Basically I wasn't able to get Legos as a kid so I went overboard when I finally had expendable income for the first time in my life. I've gotten it out of my system (haven't bought any in about 4 years) but I was basically living out my childhood for a short while.
