I mean we got the trial on Moclas in Season 1. That was pretty damn heavy. The show early on showed a rather serious side to it and got pretty missing reviews from critics too(General Audiences and myself enjoyed it though)
I feel like he sold it to executives as a parody/homage of trek with the intention of slowly turning it into a straight up trek show with some of that comedy still present.
Probably a mix of loving star trek and being a bit burnt out on parody/comedy shows.
I don't agree with everything about how season 3 is going but overall I enjoy the direction of the show. Maybe a smidgen more comedy and slightly lowered runtimes.
Given the lack of reception of most trek from the past decade or two....I think the Oriville stepping in is fine.
Strange New Worlds is a return to form though. Best Trek has been in a long time.
