I had the opposite reaction. I like the direction they're headed. Are they a little over the top on some things? Sure. But that hasn't changed, imo.
It's literally closer to what Star Trek should have been than Star Trek is now.
The only thing I'm really questioning is the weird time line they seem to be on. The Topa episode seems a bit off with the aging. And they haven't been entirely clear how long it's been since the Kaylon attack. But, I'm ready to suspend my disbelief so long as they're telling good stories. And so far this season, I'd say they're running a solid 7.5-8.3/10.
