Japanese people might out-snack food Americans tbh. They also tend to be much more willing to try a wide range of flavors in a lot of different kinds of snacks.

When I first moved to koreatown, red bean pastries hit me with like 5lbs in a month. And it's mostly the non-asians going for it, fatties that we are.

For lunch tomorrow I'm making onigiri with red bean paste in it

I'm not a fan of warm red bean snacks. But gimme that red bean ice cream or iced dessert like patbingsu or ch.
They do savory snacks really well in particular imo. A lot of rice, corn, and potato stuff with great crunchiness, lots of phenomenal flavors, and lots of varied approaches to spiciness (As opposed to the west which is mostly just Jalapenos, Habeneros, some Chilis, and "extreme" peppers).

Really, I think the only savory snack line in the West that compares is Doritos. They really push the flavors a bit more and their corn chip stands out in texture from it's peers (LOTS of potato chips and crisps, basically).

With that said, I've had a few of the Meiji chocolates like Meiji Mushrooms and they are pretty fucking good for something so simple. Definitely hits on the same level as something like Kit Kats (Which has hundreds of flavors in Japan!)

I wish I had a taiyaki mould. I might buy one when I get paid just to try a taiyaki

There's lots of Korean places around here that stock all kinds Japanese, Korean, and Chinese snacks and they're hit or miss but the variety blows American snacks out of the water.

The bad snacks are really bad though.
It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

Eh Japanese and Korean chips suck though (90% of them have the texture of Funyuns). I generally just get onigiri/kimbap when I go to convenience stores because their chips suck so much. Youre right that street/fair food like Taiyaki/Takoyaki/Yakitori/etc is on point, though
