Which RE game should I get?

Recently watched some playthroughs of Resident Evil 7 with all the hype around Resident Evil 8 coming out soon and I loved it. I'm on Switch but I saw they have a lot of Resident Evil games that are on sale right now. I've heard good things about RE2 and RE4 and wanted to know which one I should buy. Does it matter the order of the games I play or can I just jump in wherever?

When you say RE2, do you mean the 1998 PS1 game or the 2019 RE2make?

Either way RE2

RE4 isn't great.

Neither of them are like RE7. RE4 is the more fun game tho

What? RE4 isn't great? Anyway, start from RE1 then find the original 2&3 then move on to 4.

Also the "order" doesn't really matter.

There are reoccuring characters and continuity but.... It's zombies and mad scientists. The characters aren't deep and you don't really gain anything from sticking with them in order aside from loyalty.

Chris Redfield isn't exactly Count Fosco

RE7 and presumably RE8 aren't like any other game in the series before them.

So none of the other games will give you the same experience as you saw in those let's plays

Closest would be RE2make and even that isn't the same

You learn the story from playing them in order and learn about the lore of the games.

Also TC, if you can find the CG animated films because they add to the story and lore of the games.

RE4 was my favorite RE game for a long time and one of my favorite games of all time in general but RE2make has made me reconsider somewhat. 4 is more action with elements of horror while 2 is more straight up survival horror, although it can be very fast-paced at times. RE4 is by far the longer game (like 3 times as long at least), so more bang for your buck in that sense.

As for playing the games in a set order, I dont think its necessary. I played RE4 first, then classic RE2, then RE5, then the first RE, then RE2make, then RE7, then classic RE3. lol

As a huge fan of the RE series and it's lore.

It's dumb as shit and about as deep as Abby from TLOU2. That's kinda why I love it. It's just dumb fun.

I don't think newcomers experience much by starting with with RE1 as opposed to RE2 or 4 or 7. The games hardly even reference each other and reoccuring characters flat out change personalities and sometimes backstories between games. Leon in RE2,4,6 and the CGI movies are unrecongizable aside from their hair.

Just avoid 5,6, Dead Aim, Survivor, Umbrella Coprs and Operation Racoon city

Long as you do that, nothing else really matters.

Its one of the best co-op games ever made. Single player is fine but not on the level of best of something ever made.

Christ Marvel's Ultimate Alliance 3 was a more fun co op game than RE5. Altered Beasts is a more fun co op game than RE5. CTR and you don't know Jack are more fun multiplayer games.

RE5 isn't even average, it's just bad.
